Along with physical well-being, mental and emotional stability, as well as an understanding of social connection, are all important to me. It is not just the absence of illness or disease, but also having sufficient energy and the ability to live a meaningful life.

For me, the most relevant competency standard was 12.3 because the concept of 'Culturally Responsive Clinical practice emphasises good communication while giving treatment to persons from migrant and refugee backgrounds. I understand the need for active listening, which allows patients from other backgrounds to express their experiences and viewpoints, providing a better understanding of their specific cultural preferences. I feel this understanding allows me to develop care plans and treatment alternatives to be culturally sensitive, providing patient-centred care. I focus on addressing language barriers by making language interpretation services easily available and maintaining clear and accurate communication. I am aware of nonverbal communication signs because other cultures may interpret things differently. To ensure that I am presenting information in a culturally acceptable manner, I alter my communication style and body language. To increase my cultural competency and communication abilities, I will participate in ongoing self-education and receive feedback from both patients and coworkers. I am looking forward to giving the greatest quality and culturally relevant care to clients from migrant and refugee backgrounds by incorporating these practices into my nursing care.

Sikhism originated in Punjab. The Sri Harmandir Sahib (or Golden Temple), the most holy of Sikh refuges, is in Amritsar. Three of Sikhism's five Takhts (Temporal Seats of Religious Authority) are in Punjab. Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Damdama Sahib, and Anandpur Sahib are among them. The 5 Ks are the markers of Sikh identity and they are kesh (unshorn hair and beard since the Sikh choose to maintain it), kangha (a wooden comb for the kesh), kara (an iron or steel bracelet), kachera (an undergarment), and kirpan (a short, curved blade or knife made of iron or steel).

Principal Health Issues that Refugee face in Australia

Country focus: Afghanistan
Afghanistan is now experiencing one of the world's most severe humanitarian crises, crime, and terrorism. The Taliban started their military operation in May 2021, resulting in the fall of Kabul on August 15, 2021, and the Taliban returning control of Afghanistan. Since the Taliban got control in 2021, authorities have shut down many girls' secondary schools, prevented women from attending university, and barred many female Afghan humanitarian workers from working. There is no money in the Afghan economy to pay salaries or purchase food. Refugees frequently suffer from a variety of health issues because of their experiences before and during migration. Among the most prevalent health problems are:

1. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD): Refugees, particularly those escaping areas of war such as Afghanistan, frequently face trauma and may suffer from PTSD or depression. Counselling and treatment for mental health issues, such as Cognitive behavioural therapy, and trauma-focused therapy, can be useful in treating PTSD and depression. Psychiatric drugs may be recommended in various instances. To meet the special requirements of refugees, it is critical to offer culturally sensitive and language-appropriate mental health care (Yesar et al., 2016).

2. Infectious illnesses: During their displacement, refugees may have been exposed to infectious illnesses due to crowded and unsanitary environments. Tuberculosis, hepatitis, and parasite diseases are all common illnesses. It is critical to have regular screenings and medical checkups. Depending on the kind of illness, treatment may include a course of antibiotics or antiparasitic drugs. Vaccinations for avoidable illnesses are also frequently given to migrants upon arrival.

3. Nutritional Deficiencies: Refugees frequently lack access to adequate meals. Malnutrition, particularly in children and pregnant women, can result in a variety of health issues. Nutritional supplements and education are critical treatment options. To correct inadequacies, refugees might be given fortified diets, vitamins, and minerals. Nutrition education programmes can also assist families in making healthier food choices while staying within their financial limits.

Australian Refugee Health Practice Guide, (2019). https://refugeehealthguide.org.au/referrals/western-australia/
Yaser, A., Slewa-Younan, S., Smith, C.A.(2016). Beliefs and knowledge about post-traumatic stress disorder amongst resettled Afghan refugees in Australia. Int J Ment Health Syst 10, 31. https://doi.org/10.1186/s13033-016-0065-7
