         <description><![CDATA[<div>The fifth ruler of Singapura was a rebel prince from Palembang called Parameswara. He found Temasek a successful  port although a vassal of the King of Siam. He killed the ruler , Tamagi to take over the throne. He fled when the Siamese armies came to avenge the death of Temasek's ruler. He fled northwards and eventually establish the new trading port of Melaka.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><br>The <strong>early </strong><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Singapore"><strong>history of Singapore</strong></a> refers to its pre-colonial era before 1819, when the British <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_India_Company">East India Company</a> led by Sir Stamford Raffles established a trading settlement on the island and set in motion the history of Singapore.<br><br></div><div><br>Prior to 1819, the island was known by several names, dating back as early as the 2nd century, when <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ptolemy">Ptolemy</a>'s maps identified a coastal port at the southernmost tip of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malayan_peninsula">Malayan peninsula</a>, called <em>Sabana</em>. However, historians generally attribute a 3rd-century <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/China">Chinese</a> traveller's record describing an island at the same location called <em>Pu Luo Chung</em> - a transliteration of Singapura's early Malay name <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulau_Ujong">Pulau Ujong</a>, as the first recording of its existence. Subsequently, the island was controlled by different kingdoms in <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southeast_Asia">Southeast Asia</a> including the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siam">Siamese</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java">Javanese</a>, and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultanate_of_Malacca">Sultanate of Malacca</a> from the 14th century and the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sultanate_of_Johor">Sultanate of Johor</a> from the 16th century.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <title>Although the SAF was established in 1965 and Singapore only gained her current version of a National Service-based armed forces in 1967, the history of her defence started long before that. Under colonial rule that started in 1819, Singapore relied on British forces to protect her from all threats. A turning point occurred in 1854 with the creation of the Singapore Volunteer Rifle Corps (SVRC), a volunteer organisation to maintain internal security.</title>
