Conquering Bias - Looking from another perspective by Lauren Vargas

Think about your verdict that you just selected. Now, you're going to pretend that you believe the opposite verdict and find evidence to support the opposite side with EVIDENCE. If you believe innocent, you will instead find evidence to prove why Rainsford is guilty. Remember that you have to use evidence from the story. Cite the author and page number. Finally, justify your argument using ONE sentence frame HERE: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FxUnjzkWKfahpbwgkZUUhVkAd0vY0ty8VrN7rEh1Ick/edit

When it comes to Rainsford being Guilty or Innocent, most people will agree that he is Innocent. Most people believe it was a form of self-defense. Well, Zaroff was hunting him down, In the text it says, "He knew his pursuer was coming; he heard the padding sound of feet on the soft earth, and the night breeze brought him the perfume of the general's cigarette. It seemed to Rainsford that the general was coming with unusual swiftness; he was not feeling his way along, foot by foot. Rainsford, crouching there, could not see the general, nor could he see the pit. He lived a year in a minute. ( . . . ) he heard the sharp scream of pain as the pointed stakes found their mark. He leaped up from his place of concealment. Then he cowered back. Three feet from the pit a man was standing, with an electric torch in his hand." (Connell 15). This shows that Zaroff was hunting down Rainsford with intent to kill.
