From the article that i have just read, it appears as though both autocomplete and swift key are based on the same idea and are used very similarly although one difference is that swift key is mainly for phone use while autocomplete is used for computers.]

2. With this idea, in the future, more than likely it will save many people a lot of time texting and could lead to phones and computers one day knowing what we want to say before we ever do.

Microsoft autocomplete is based on a preset set of instructions either built into the code or online on some server constantly updating the database for autocomplete. SwiftKey is trying to learn your own writing, typing, and texting style to autocomplete something you would most likely say based on a set of criteria and previous messages you typed.
I think phone manufacturers will either stop trying to predict your next few words or try to compete to be the best in their phone, probably adding extras and exclusives to the predictive text software.

1.) SwiftKey uses Autocomplete to try to predict what the user would say next based on his/her most frequently used words or phrases, while Microsoft Word's Autocomplete is used to finish dates, days of the week, spelling corrections, etc...
