all those homework, assignments, house chores put together lead to burnout

A study conducted by Maxwell C.C. Musingafi, Barbra Mapuranga, Kudzai Chiwanza, Shupikai Zebron, at Zimbabwe Open University in 2015, has found that 80% of their students participating in the research are having conflicts during studying in ODL mode due to unfavourable home learning environment. Students coming from less-privileged families will have to share small space with their family at home. This will cause them to develop mental health issues if they have to study for examination while doing ODL. This means that students being confined at home with their parents due to COVID-19 has felt more stressed and anxious. A study conducted by Sprang and Silman (2013) show that children who were isolated or quarantined during pandemic diseases are more likely to suffer from acute stress disorder, adjustment disorder, and grief. These psychological factors may in turn have a detrimental effect on learning as mentioned by Kuban and Steele in 2011. Therefore, exams should not be carried out during ODL.

Learning Environment. Each students do not have the same privileges to learn in conducive environment. For instance, some students might have supportive environment such as supportive parents whom understand and respect their schedule while some students might be struggling to have such privileges because they need to juggle between classes and house chores as instructed by their parents. A study from Changwon Son, Sudeep Hegde, BEng, Alec Smith, Xiaomei Wang, Farzan Sasangohar. (2020) Effects of COVID-19 on College Students’ Mental Health in the United States: Interview Survey Study revealed that
A majority of these students (89/130, 68%) referred to living with family members as being less independent and the environment to be more distractive. They mentioned that their home is a distractive environment and a more suitable place to relax rather than to study. Participants mentioned that they were more prone to be interrupted by their family members and household chores at home.a study by Sundrasen, Sheela et. al (2020), that attempts to investigate Psychological Impact of COVID-19 and Lockdown among University Students in Malaysia revealed that students have to juggle household chores and take care of siblings while concurrently attending online classes. This had a huge impact on their anxiety levels.

According to a study by Wang et al (2020), among the 2031 participants, 48.14% (n=960) showed a moderate-to-severe level of depression, 38.48% (n=775)
showed a moderate-to-severe level of anxiety, and 18.04% (n=366) had suicidal thoughts. A majority of participants (n=1443,71.26%) indicated that their stress/anxiety levels had increased during the pandemic. Less than half of the participants (n=882,43.25%) indicated that they were able to cope adequately with the stress related to the current situation. The proportion of respondents showing depression, anxiety, and/or suicidal thoughts is alarming. Respondents reported academic-, health-, and lifestyle-related concerns caused by the pandemic.

what elseee can we relate with why exam shouldnt be conducted

Main point: No exam during ODL bcs low Connectivity (internet) among students can affect their well being and mental health.

- low connectivity because of poverty or financial strain from parents? :

1) not all students get the access to internet (https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/seac/2020/11/23/malaysias-response-to-covid-19-mobile-data-and-infrastructure/ ) statistics about internet connection. OTHER REASONS?

2) not all students duduk bandar

3) search for statistics utk kadar kemiskinan dalam negara
( poverty rate in Malaysia)

- . As a result, only 0.4 percent of households live below the current national poverty line. At the WBG's Upper Middle Income Class poverty line of US$ 5.50 (2011 PPP), poverty has declined from 16.7 percent of the population in 2008 to 2.7 percent in 2015. Malaysia introduced a national multidimensional poverty index (MPI) in 2015, and by that measure 0.9 percent of Malaysian households were estimated to be multidimensionally poor in 2015. Based on the World Bank's Multidimensional Poverty Measure, only 0.2 percent of Malaysians were multidimensionally poor as of 2015.

- Malaysia's economy is projected to contract in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated economic disruptions, with GDP forecast to decline in the range of 0.1 to 4.6 percent. As a result the poverty rate at the US$ 5.50 (2011 PPP) poverty
line-which is estimated to be 1.3 percent in 2019-is projected to be between 1.3 and 1.5 percent in 2020.

- low connectivity leads to pressure because (???????) : students are left behind in learning? cannot participate in exam through ODL? RESEARCH? STATISTICS?

- pressure leads to stress (????)
1- According to Baltas & Baltas (2000), social support, perception, hostility and locus of control are individual factors of stress. Various studies have analysed the causes and factors of exam stress confronted by students like Hamaideh (2011) investigated stress its causes and reactions thus computing them against various factors through a research study on university students.
2- In the view of Zeidner (1998), anxiety and exam stress are intellectual and emotional reaction of an individual due to the fear of adverse consequences. A high level of stress can be harmful to students’ academic success. Such types of examinations do not measure students’ genuine knowledge and abilities. There should be some other less stressful ways to evaluate students’ and talents abilities.

- stress leads to depression (????)

*Guys, I need help in expanding or assembling the supporting details for the main point. Can you please help me in searching for the support? Each speaker will be talking for 10 minutes soon. You can use what you've found with your group mates.
