The Colors of the Rain Forest by Skya Ennis

The rain forest has a lot of rain, which causes its immense greenness, and it is also very warm. These are specific characteristics of the rain forest (that no other biome has). There are colors and life here that would grow in no other place because they need the sun, the humidity, the water. Below there are approximately 6 images as well as other resources that could help you understand the rain forest, and how great the life there is.

3 adaptations

1. One adaptation that is in the rain forest is the bark. In the forest he bark helps limit the moisture evaporation from the trees trunk. While here in the rain forest that isn't much of a struggle so the trees here have bark that is thin and smooth. Since the bark is so smooth this can be a problem for plants to grow on the tree.
2. Since in the rain forest the animals have so much competition for food. The animals have learned to eat food that other animals don't eat. Some examples of how animals adapt to the rain forest is the Tuscan long and large bill. This allows them to reach food on the branches that would break if they were to land on it. Another animals adaptation example is the sloth. The sloth uses its blueish-greenish algae that grows on it's back to camouflage into the tree making it harder for animals to spot them.
3. Another plant adaptation is how the Lianas which is a vine that drapes the rain forest tree. They adopt to living in the rain forest by having their roots in the ground, and climbing high into the tree tops to reach the available sun light. Many of these type of plants start their life in the canopies then send their roots down to the ground.

The rain forest in South American helps a lot with the small villages surrounding it. The rain forest has a lot of abundant goods which can help with the economy of the countries it inhabits. The rain forest is one of the most important producers of rubber in the world. This helps boast the rubber industries economy. Sadly this industry is contributing the most to deforestation. Another economic value that is important to the rain forest is it's tourism. The amount of tourism depends on how nice the rain forest is. If they still want to be making money from tourism then the park rangers may want to prevent people from deforestation to save the rain forest. If the people do that then more tourist will visit the rain forest. This will help the rain forest economic value go up.

One of the most important parts on any biome is the productivity. Green plants convert the most energy for primary productivity. Temperature, water, carbon dioxide, and nutrients are some things that factor into productivity. Because the rain forest has a lot of water, nutrients, and high temperatures; it has a very high productivity rate. In fact the rain forest biome has the highest productivity rates with around 2,200 grams of biomass per square meter per year.

One of the many ecological services is how many life/water cycles the rain forest supports. Since many of the rain forests "live on the edge" they have little nutrient in take meaning they have to provide the majority of nutrients for themselves. Some other services that the rain forest provides is watersheds, regeneration of soil, maintenance of organisms within this biome. prevention of erosion, provision of food, and maintenance of renewable energy. This is just to name a few, and there are many more ecological services for the rainforest,
