The July Crisis (10A - 2022) by Max Lazar

I have pre-assigned slots for each of you in chronological order (both of the reading and of history); the first step is to find your place on the timeline. Then, read through your assigned section of the July Crisis 1914 article from the International Encyclopedia of the First World War (you can search for your name in the document). Add information into the timeline based on the information in your section. You should decide, based on what you read, whether to put all the material in one post, or whether to create multiple posts on the timeline for clarity. If there is a clear date (or span of dates), that should be the title. If there isn't, then the post title should summarize the theme. In the text of your post, write a clear description of the key events, themes, and ideas at play. Then choose an image that applies to your post (you can get to Google Images directly through the Edit button).

After you are done with your post(s), read the conclusion of the article. If you are confused about any of the material in your paragraph, move up a paragraph for additional context, or reach out to the student working on the earlier paragraph. When the timeline is complete (I'll send out an email), you should look over the whole thing and then answer the reflection questions in the attached Google Doc.

Prime Minister Nikola Pašić (Serbia) used Russia's support as an "excuse" in order to decline Austria's ultimatum for their military. However, one of the real reasons were because its conditions did not align with Serbia's values in addition to making them seem weaker than they were. This acceptance could have allowed Austria with inside access to the "Black Hand" (the people behind the assassination) while also showing that Serbia had knew of the assassination prior to it (and did nothing to prevent it).
