Desmond Thomas doss was known as the combat medic in world war 2 who never used a gun battle. A thing that would be very controversial at the time but was still incredible to witness. After the War, Demond would be awarded The star bronze twice for his efforts in the Phillipines and Guam. His most known accomplishment is saving over 75 men in the battle of Okinawa. This action lead him to also receiving the medal of honor.

Desmond Doss was a seventh day adventist. Meaning he was against killing. This would be a bit of a problem at first for him as they wouldnt allow Desmond go to war without gun training. Eventually the army would let Desmond go into war without the use of a weapon and let him be a combat medic for the 307th infantry, 77th infantry division.

The battle of Okinawa was one of the largest battles in which the united states army fought against the Imperial Japanese army. This battle can be largely depicted in the 2016 film Hacksaw Ridge which stars Andrew Garfield as Desmond Doss and shows what Desmond's experience was like in the war. This is also know as the bloodiest battle in the pacific. This battle resulted in the deaths of over 50,000 US army dead and 84,000/170,000 Japanese dead. It also resulted in the U.S Army Winning over Okinawa Island.

Although its been almost 20 years since his passing He is still well known for his crucial role in the war and his bravery in helping his fellow soldiers without the use of a weapon and just the help of god by his side.
