This is a quote I try to live by in every aspect of my life. In school I want my students to feel valued, respected, and important. They are going to feel this way by the things that I say to them, as well as, how they are treated. They probably won’t remember what I said a few days from now, but they will remember how they felt for years to come. This is also true with family and friends. I want them to feel how important they are to me. This can be done by both words and actions.

Kehley I love this quote. I teach second grade and know my students are capable of so much. The high expectations I hold them to in academics often makes me want to treat them as if they are much older than they are. I am constantly reminding myself to be the person in their life who is consistent but kind and loving. I want my students to look back and remember me in a positive light.

Especially during the younger years, our students depend on us to help them grow cognitively, socially, AND emotionally. Even more, our students require love, attention, and nurturing, which I think your quote sums up pretty nicely. I think this quote also speaks to the importance of building a safe and respected classroom community where everyone is valued; not only by the teacher, but by other students, too!

I love this quote! It is a very true statement. Most people in general forget the exact words that were said or the exact things that were done, but they rarely remember the feelings. I try to build a community in my classroom of respect and kindness to everyone. This does not always happen, but I try to model it as best I can. If something happens in my room, I always try to get the other student to think back to a time where this happened to them and remember how it made them feel. That seems to always make people feel better. When it comes to me as a teacher, I check myself constantly. I do not want my feelings form another part of my day to impact the way I treat these students or their parents. I want them to feel loved and safe with me no matter what.

I still remember the way some of my teachers treated me (and usually they aren't the positive things that I remember.) I try really hard to make sure that I can make personal connections to each of my students. I ask them a lot of questions about their lives and make sure that not everything is about academics. I try to model the behaviors that I expect from my students and I will point out my flaws to students as well.

I couldn't agree more. It doesn't matter what is said, all that matters is how you make someone feel. It goes back to the age old adage that actions speak louder than words. Our students need to be loved and told how awesome they are and to be encouraged to never give up and to always try their best.

This reminds me of my 5th grade teacher. I don't remember a single thing he said or taught me. However, I vividly remember when he turned on the song "Wooly Bully" for a student with some kind of intellectual disability. The whole class was cheering him on as he ran and danced around the classroom. This is in my thoughts often as I remember that sometimes we as teachers just need to relax about all the deadlines and assessments and just let our kids be kids. Not only did that kid feel special, but I felt so happy for that kid.

This quote is perfect! Every day my students come in to class with a smile and a hello, I feel like I've accomplished something. Some days, I feel like I've discouraged them because I've been stressed out, but they always come back smiling. If I can keep that positivity in their lives, then that is all that matters!

I have heard this quote before, and I think that it is such a great quote! It is so true that students will forget what you say. They won't remember the way I taught them to regroup when adding or how I had them pick partners. They will remember how I made them feel. There is nothing like the feeling when a student comes back from a previous year to give you a hug or tell you they miss your class. I want my students to know that they were important and cared for when they were in my room and in the end, that is what I want them to take away from 4th grade. Great quote! Something to be reminded of regularly. :)

I think it is awesome that you have been exposing your students to quotes and letting them reflect on them. Our summer class inspired me to want to start this but I haven't been keeping up with it. As for this quote, it is so very true and important for teachers to remember. As with most experiences in life, we remember how we feel, not exactly what was said.

This quote could not be closer to my heart!!! I base all of my instruction on relationships and trust...and I've seen students succeed with me who haven't succeeded as much with teachers who don't focus on those relationships as much.

I also believe that without making students feel a positive way, there's no way they'll remember what you say! It's a strong belief of mine that what students learn is directly correlated to the trust and relationship between teacher and student!

I think this quote is very relevant. I try to remember when teaching my students that you don’t know what is going on at home with students. Students’ behaviors often represent something deeper, so I have to keep this in mind with those tough students. What I remember most about my teachers are their personalities. I remember the ones who were kind, loving, encouraging, irritable, and angry. I remember if they were funny or really truly cared about my learning. So, my goal is always to teach my students useful skills first, like working together, being kind, and working hard through my own example.

I always say that if my students do not know anything else when they leave, it will not matter as long they know that I love them.
