It is a very true statement. Most people in general forget the exact words that were said or the exact things that were done, but they rarely remember the feelings. I try to build a community in my classroom of respect and kindness to everyone. This does not always happen, but I try to model it as best I can. If something happens in my room, I always try to get the other student to think back to a time where this happened to them and remember how it made them feel. That seems to always make people feel better. When it comes to me as a teacher, I check myself constantly. I do not want my feelings form another part of my day to impact the way I treat these students or their parents. It is so true that students will forget what you say. They won't remember the way I taught them to regroup when adding or how I had them pick partners. They will remember how I made them feel. There is nothing like the feeling when a student comes back from a previous year to give you a hug or tell you they miss your class. I want my students to know that they were important and cared for when they were in my room and in the end, that is what I want them to take away from 4th grade. Great quote! I am verbal about my feelings but they also can tell by the way I treat them. I feel that I need to be verbal about the way that I am feeling because some students have never felt loved or valued or have seen that from someone, so my actions deserve an explanation.
