1. How does the epic describe the two swords? Are they included to compliment or contrast each other?

The first sword, which is known as Hrunting, is described as a sword with history, it is said that anyone who has ever ported it has not lost in battle. On the other hand , the sword in the cave of Grendel is a sword of an earlier time, from this sword it is said that no human except Beowulf can master. By the descriptions given, the second sword Beowulf uses seems to be bigger and weighs more than the first one, which seems to be lighter and smaller. So the writer compares the two swords to make us see that he is using a completely different sword in the second attempt, and that that change of the sword was a vital factor to kill the beast. (pg 105/108-109)

The river that Beowulf fought Grendel’s mother in was rushing, causing confusion and intensity to the situation. The fight also occurred at night time, creating an ominous and mysterious mood. There were also cliffs with monsters and the water was infested with monsters and reptiles. All of these elements add a sense of uneasiness, fear, and chaos, making the situation much more suspenseful. (pg. 99-101)

7. Find one example of the narrator's biblical worldview. Does the narrator’s opinion establish Beowulf as the hero or not? Explain your ideas.

He says that it was God given, meaning he believes there is an intelligent creator who gives humans certain traits.

3. Ultimately, the contest reflects the ideas of good versus evil. Provide support to explain the way the epic describes this contest.

Beowulf represents the good side of the contest, and Grendel's mother represents the evil side based on what they are fighting for. Beowulf is fighting Grendel’s mom in order to stop her from killing innocent people, which is noble and brave of him to do so on his own. Grendel’s mother is only trying to get revenge for her son's death, attempting to kill as many people as she could, having little sympathy for human life. Beowulf is willing to sacrifice his life in order to bring an end to Grendel’s mother, and is willing to do anything in order to save the lives of innocent people.

It is not a pleasant place as it is filled with dark clouds and rain. In this quote, rain is described as the sky crying.
