Here at Davis, we interact with our students' parents on a frequent basis. Believe in yourself and your role as a teacher. Speak with these adults the way that you would want your child's teachers to speak to you - be honest, but caring, and convey that you have their child's best interest at heart.

If one of the children in your class throws up, send him/her to the clinic. Don't just give the student a breath mint and allow the child to stay in class. Big rookie mistake!

Know that your students' parents are on your team! There will be difficult conversations along the way. Just remember to always start and end with something positive about their child, and the partnership will be much stronger.

Take care of your health! Pack a healthy lunch, bring a water bottle, and take vitamins. Try to sleep 8 hours, if you can! Give lots of high fives or hugs, but remember to wash your hands! :)

Communication is key! Whether it's with parents or fellow staff, always be open and willing to help! It's also okay to ask for help!

Be flexible and willing to help others. Sometimes missing a planning period may be tough on you, but if you can help a coworker out, it will be worth it later on. Don't burn any bridges. Always be sweet to Pepe and Davona--they can help you out sometimes when you are in a bind! :)

Remember that you are doing what you love! Try not to let the minor bumps discourage you. This will be a year filled with valuable learning experiences that will help you grow as a teacher! :-)

Invest in a good pair of rain boots and a warm jacket if you have outside carpool duty.

During Hanukkah, be prepared for your clothes, hair, skin, etc to smell like latkes!

Don't panic when you forget something at home. You can always run out at lunch or on a planning period to grab it.
