I think as an educator I cannot think of a time I "sprayed and prayed" on anything. This concept is so foreign to me, because I like to always be prepared for anything. I can see how bringing in the latest technology could be a neat thing to do, but if it is not going to benefit the student in any way then it is just another way we are misusing resources available to us.

Teachers can use AT for students with disabilities to become more proactive in their learning by using SETT. First understanding the students abilities, limitations, interest, dislikes, etc. Then thinking about the environment the student is in. Followed by the task at hand and what tool best fits.

I believe one of the main reasons why assistive technology is so important is because it gives people the freedom to learn, perform otherwise physically challenging tasks, read, and other day to day activities with much more ease so that they can focus on what really matters as opposed to how they are going to get there. So teachers use AT as a strategy to encourage proactivity by sampling giving the students the chance to use AT and properly training them so that they can use it to its full potential.

This can go a long way beyond the classroom. Students can use these skills in society. Assistive technology improves the lives of persons with disabilities and utilizing it can increase student’s self- management skills and augments their individual strengths.
