In Greece, astronomy is a branch of mathematics. Greek astronomy started because they wanted an explanation for the stars. They also wanted to create a model of the planets.

At the time astronomy wasn't only limited to Greece. References to stars and constellation can be found in the writings of homer. Greek astronomers believed the stars would go into the ocean.

The Parthenon was built in 447 B.C. then was completed in 432 B.C. then later destroyed by a bombing by foreigners in 1687 A. D. But while it still stood upon it wall/hill it was used as a Greek temple of worship for the Athena the goddess of wisdom and war. Later on it was used as a church for the Virgin Mary. Also later changed into a Mosque a place of worship for Islam. If you are wondering the dimensions of the temple are 228 by 101 ft.

The Parthenon's name in English is apparently "Unmarried women's apartments". The designers Inkintos and Kallikrates took about 15 years to finish it without help. So that's about 3 years and 97 days to put up at least one wall. Then in 1816 all the art was sold to a British museum in London. Finally to end the Parthenon still stands as one of the world's greatest cultural monuments.

The first modern olympics were held in Athens Greece in 1896. The man responsible for its rebirth was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre De Coubertin who presented the idea in 1894.

They continued for nearly 12 centuries. The Olympic Games were closely linked to religious festivals. Only free men who spoke Greek could play. Married women were not allowed to attend the Olympics. Women weren’t allowed to compete in any of the events. There was a separate women’s festival that was called Heraia which was named after the wife of Zeus Hera to honor her.
