The leaders of this reform movement were William Lloyd Garrison, Fredrick Douglas, Harriet Tubman. Harriet Tubman was also a slave and the leader of the underground railroad which she helped free 300 hundred slaves. These people couldn't stand to watch these African Americans get abused just because they are a different color than everyone else is. They knew this was unfair and had to do something about it because no body else would. This reform movement started in the 1820's. As this is going on it's informing people what the South are doing to these innocent people. The women have little to know rights because everything is depending on men. Women aren't even allowed to vote or even own land when they are married. If they are married and own any land the husband automatically get tall that land the women had.
