Scientist think the the disease is an abnormal version of protein normally found on cell surfaces. The protein becomes altered and destroys nervous system tissue. This is a concern to cattle owners because this can kill their cattle very easily and it costs lots of money. It also effects all the feed they got because there could be the protein in that feed.
