The screen was made with a spoon,  cloth and cotton. The cotton was wrapped under the cloth and around the spoon and tied off with a rubber band. The spoon was then used to scrape off the oils and leaves from the top. In the real world, the water settles down in a tank which allows for the solid wastes and germs to settle to the bottom and the oil to rise. The oil is then scraped of with a rotating scraper. In our lab, the water was added into container and disposed of properly since it wasn't as clean as the process that happens in the real world.
