In the math class that I was in this past semester, the teacher gave each student an individual white board. This was a a great strategy because it gave students a different way to show their work.

At the beginning of a unit (6th grade science) instead of introducing the material with a PowerPoint, she did an explore lesson. There were different stations around the room for students to look at the new material. One was a video they had to answer questions about, one was a computer simulation, one was a drawing activity, another was an article they had to read, and the last one was a short lab they completed.

A great teaching strategy in a middle school social studies classroom that I observed was having a large cumulative project at the end of the unit. This teacher allowed students to create what they wished as long as it involved ancient Chinese culture. Many students created welding projects, cooked, or brought in origami, wooden models, or scrolls.

As I was observing a 6th grade Social Studies teacher conduct an activity with students on geography, I noticed she was using think, pair, share with shoulder partners. Each pair had a question to answer. They shared with the class, and recorded the answers in their notebooks.

One great teaching strategy that I have observed was in a 7th grade science classroom. The teacher gave a bell ringer at the beginning of each class that was called "Science in Seconds" and she already had a template set up for them that had 5 boxes on it, one for each day of the school week. Students would label each box with the date and answer their science in seconds questions so that they could be graded at a later date.

In the Language Arts course I was doing my Clinical hours my teacher had them write an informative essay on their favorite authors, modern or postmodern. A lot of people wrote about J.K. Rowling. It really grabbed the interest of the students and they were really interested in their writing.
