Technology is something that is a requirement for striving in today’s generation. It is used in everywhere, at any circumstances and has brought great benefits in any fields be it in businesses, medical field, and even in simplest way possible. Technology indeed has opened a lot of great opportunities, and has helped us to work efficiently. But it can also bring negative effects if not used properly. This is where the importance of digital literacy takes place. Digital literacy is the ability to access, analyze and utilize digital tools in order to work effectively in creating media content through the use of information technologies and internet.

In the Philippines, According to Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), Only around 40 percent have at least one of the six information and communications technology (ICT) skills monitored for the Sustainable Development Goals. Digital literacy appears to be lowest among the young (10-14 years old) and the elderly (65 and above). In ASEAN, the Philippines lags in nearly all ICT skills endorsed by the International Telecommunication Union. Which indicates that there are nationwide digital divide because there are some areas where digital skills are not honed due to limited access to digital tools. Personally, I admit I am one of those that are not that excellent at utilizing such tools as some might be new for me. But if there are any digital literacy skills that I have learned and I possess, it would be collaboration and word processing. Why? because these are the ones that I apply frequently in my academe. There are still things that I need to learn and areas improve and I look forward to it as I try to learn new things.

To sum it all up, digital literacy are skills need to analyze and utilize digital tools to enhance creativity and for the work to be efficient as well as for the datas to be accessible. It plays a huge role in being a responsible digital citizen in order to adapt to our changing world where technology is mixed in our everyday lives.
