The folktale is trying to teach us that not everything is what it seems. We all thought that Karaba was just a bad person and that was why she was so mean but it wasn’t her fault. The men put the thorn in her back and the thorn made her mean. Karaba was a good person underneath all of the pain that she had to go through. So the message was don’t judge a book by its cover.

And in this case that was true for karaba. For example we later learned in the story that karaba was mean because there was a plug in his back that made him evil

I think this film is trying to teach us that even if you are YOUNG you can still do BIG things, by showing us all of Kirikou’s acts of braveness. However, it can also show once Karaba gets the thorn out of her back, that not to judge a book by its cover. the villagers all thought Karaba was a witch and she was just naturally mean... but in reality, most people that are in a bad mood or mean have a reason... so once Karaba got the thorn out of her back she even fell in love with the person she was trying to “kill / hurt” because Kirikou was understanding of the situation and accepted her.
