Washington University’s Center for the Humanities, in partnership with the University of Ghana, American University in Cairo and Stellenbosch University, with University of Ghana as the lead Institution, has received funding from the Mellon Foundation for a transnational program, aimed at enhancing research capacity for early career scholars in the humanities. The program funds the travel, housing and other related costs of selected early career humanities scholars from the four institutions to spend three months at one of the other partner institutions.  

The aim of the overall project is to create a space for scholars in the humanities to enhance their research agenda in their early career years. The period of stay (three months) in the collaborating institution will allow for targeted mentorship and guidance for the selected scholars by identified senior scholars who share their research interests, while also providing an avenue for interaction and the sharing of research ideas and methodologies with peers. The project is unique in many respects as, unlike some existing initiatives, it seeks to create avenues for early career scholars to have the opportunity of residency in a region of Africa (other than their own, if they are Africa-based) or in a global north institution. Please note: Your research field does not have to be Africa-focused.

The International Center for Child Health and Development (ICHAD) at the Brown School is thrilled to announce the application has now opened for the 2024 cohort of the LEAD Global Training Program. A research opportunity is available in the Office of New Drugs/Office of Nonprescription Drugs, Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Silver Spring, Maryland.

In 1972, The FDA initiated an Over the Counter (OTC) drug monograph review process to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of thousands of marketed OTC products. An OTC drug monograph serves as a kind of "rule book" for regulated industry in formulating OTC products by specifying "conditions of use" under which a given category of products are considered to be Generally Recognized as Safe and Effective (GRASE) and not misbranded. This review process is ongoing to modify and update the monographs to keep pace with changing science. The literature search results and related analyses of publicly available information will be used by the Office of New Drugs / Office of Nonprescription Drugs as background data for monograph reviews in support of FDA actions related to the OTC Drug Monographs.

Under the guidance of a mentor, the participant will train on conducting comprehensive literature searches on specific monograph drug active ingredients or other monograph condition; summarizing and analyzing relevant data from the literature searches; and summarizing and analyzing key findings, limitations, and data gaps from white papers and published data submitted to the public docket.

This program, administered by ORAU through its contract with the U.S. Department of Energy to manage the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, was established through an interagency agreement between DOE and FDA. The initial appointment is for one year, but may be renewed upon recommendation of FDA contingent on the availability of funds. The participant will receive a monthly stipend commensurate with educational level and experience. Proof of health insurance is required for participation in this program. The appointment is full-time at FDA in the Silver Spring, Maryland, area. Participants do not become employees of FDA, DOE or the program administrator, and there are no employment-related benefits.

Completion of a successful background investigation by the Office of Personnel Management is required for an applicant to be on-boarded at FDA. OPM can complete a background investigation only for individuals, including non-US Citizens, who have resided in the US for a total of three of the past five years.

As a general rule, nominated candidates should be at the junior faculty level, although the Foundation will consider applications nominating candidates in research training programs. Investigators who have already received R01 awards from NIMH are not eligible for nomination. Investigators who have K awards or have applied for K awards are eligible for nomination, as are investigators who have not applied for Ks and hope to use a KTGF fellowship as a steppingstone to a K award or other funding. While fellows may be selected prior to receipt of IRB approval, no fellowship award is finalized until such approval is received.

The Foundation accepts nominations only from the Chair of Departments of Psychiatry. Each medical institution must select only one research project and investigator for nomination per fellowship. In addition to the Department Chair's endorsement, the Foundation also requires a mentor to sponsor the project and investigator. The Department Chair may serve as a mentor.

In 2010, the National Institute of Corrections (NIC) began work in the area of the safe and secure management of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) individuals in custody based on Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) standards that require that agencies respond to this population. Since the awarding of an initial cooperative agreement, there have been additional awards on this topic for a variety of products, including policy guides, broadcasts, and trainings. Correctional agencies face many challenges surrounding the safe management of the populations they house and supervise. Due in part to changes in federal and state laws and the outcome of successful litigation, the management of transgender individuals in custody and on supervision is an emerging correctional issue that deserves special attention. While gender non-conforming persons have always been present within facilities and on caseloads, the current environment suggests the need for agencies to identify responsible and safe practices that are respectful of differences and that have the potential to reduce agencies’ susceptibility to liability and litigation.

The transgender population has some very particular issues associated with aspects of the correctional experience, such as housing, classification, and placement; medical and mental health treatment; clothing and grooming; drug testing; and interactions with staff. As a general group, they are also more likely to be victims of sexually abusive acts while in custody according to surveys conducted by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), which indicate that non-heterosexual adults report higher rates of sexual victimization while in custody.

In the U.S. Transgender Survey Report of 2015 (USTS), many challenges to the free-world transgender population are identified. Understanding the challenges that transgender people now face is especially relevant to preparing transgender persons for successful reentry and completing successful supervision in the community. It should also be noted that the transgender population is somewhat overrepresented in the criminal legal system due in part to their involvement in activities that can lead to interaction with law enforcement. These activities can include sex work, drug sales and/or use, and other underground economy work cited in the USTS.

As the last award for LGBTI work was in 2016, NIC is seeking now to refresh and expand the resources that are currently available, focusing on the transgender population specifically. NIC is soliciting proposals from organizations, groups, or individuals to enter into a cooperative agreement for at least a 12-month project period. Work under this agreement will include a literature review, formation of a working group of subject matter experts, a white paper containing findings and recommendations, the updating and development of policy guides, education and training tools, and other resource materials.

Award Ceiling is $130,000.

The activity will promote inclusivity and accessibility across a variety of sectors through providing methodology and expertise on inclusive services and facilities for individuals with special needs, including people with disabilities, elderly people, pregnant women, young parents, and others. In accordance with Turkmenistan’s National Action Plan for Gender Equality for 2021-2025, this activity will increase the capacity of civil servants, civil society and private sector to better understand and implement gender sensitive knowledge, attitudes, policies and practices with the aim to improving women's economic opportunities, including participation in political and public spheres, and decreasing gender-based violence. Award Ceiling is $6,500,000. USAID intends to make one award. 

Opportunity 1: Advancing the skills and effectiveness of civil servants to deliver high quality services for citizens. Turkmenistan continues to develop the human and institutional capacity for public administration and strengthen intergovernmental linkages to improve government functioning. The GoTM has emphasized applying good international practices such as a “single window” concept for all utility services. Building on the excellent partnership between USAID and GoTM, this activity has the opportunity to support the GoTM’s vision by assisting in developing concrete, sequenced steps to continuously improve the efficiency of service delivery.

Opportunity 2: Leverage e-governance to improve access to public services and communication between government and citizens. The GoTM has prioritized digital transformation and e-governance as a key to making public services more accessible, cost-effective, and fully compliant with laws and formal processes. USAID has partnered with the government to develop digital platforms in the health sector, and to build information communication technologies (ICT) capacity for civil servants. This new activity has the opportunity to support the GoTM in identifying concrete steps and capabilities necessary to increase the number of services available through e-government, and the number of people able to access such services and provide feedback through two-way communication, with the ultimate goal of a “one-window” e-government system where all possible services are available through one portal.

Opportunity 3: Evidence-based, inclusive and harmonized policy and legislation to advance GoTM priorities. USAID has positive relationships with the Mejlis of Turkmenistan and a number of Ministries with whom it has supported the development or amendment of legislation. There is an excellent opportunity to advance GoTM priorities by increasing the evidence-base for developing legislation and soliciting greater input from across public institutions to inform policy. Engaging local government, various ministries and state institutions, public  ssociations and the private sector will result in more inclusive, context-relevant policy. Partnership in the legislative and policy drafting process can deconflict legislation, ensuring that laws and policies are clear and implementable, facilitating better compliance with the law and a more predictable business and investment environment.

Opportunity 4: Increased influence and long-term sustainability of civil society. Turkmenistan has a number of public associations working on various issues such as disability rights, environmental causes, and women’s empowerment. With adequate support and an enabling

environment, these organizations have the potential to advance shared priorities with the GoTM, and to benefit citizens of Turkmenistan. By streamlining the registration and administrative procedures for public associations the GoTM could contribute to more effective and strategic use of resources. These organizations could also increase their impact by strengthening their engagement with constituencies, and diversifying funding to enhance sustainability. In addition, there are likely underutilized informal civil society actors that could be leveraged to disseminate public messaging and build consensus on socioeconomic issues.

BER is soliciting applications in the following subtopic areas: 1) fundamental imaging or sensing research from concept to validation or 2) evaluation of biological hypotheses or questions with feasible, use-inspired prototypes. Under subtopic 1) applications could evaluate, untested concepts, and theoretical models, develop novel experimental prototypes and validate measurement accuracy against known technical or biological validation standards. Under subtopic 2) research of experimental prototypes of instruments and methods that will include demonstration of feasibility leading to hypothesis-driven biological experimentation to demonstrate value to the user community. This FOA does not solicit late-stage optimization after initial prototype research, or engineering development of resources, or equipment. 

Subtopic 1: Concept to Validation 

Projects can begin at the conceptual (pre-experimental) stage and move through validation by comparing technical performance and biological measurements against accepted standards. This stage is too early to investigate new biological questions until proven accurate and reproducible. The intent of the first subtopic is to include applications that might not yet have experimental demonstration of feasibility but hold promise of significant impact if successful. These high-risk high-reward applications might reside completely within a scientific and technical field of research and are not required to demonstrate novel biological utility. However, validation against already characterized synthetic or biological samples in BER-supported bioenergy and environmental research should be included. Measurement should be compared to known or “gold-standard” targets measured by competing methods.  

Demonstration in living systems is not required, but systems must have future impact on in situ imaging, measuring, or modeling for plant- and microbial-based bioenergy research. Proposed projects should hold promise for significant advances in imaging or sensing and must include plans to manage the high risk inherent in testing novel concepts and techniques. These “highrisk/high reward” projects might have no preliminary data to support the concept making feasibility challenging to evaluate for scientific merit. However, reviewers will be instructed to evaluate merit based on the future significance of the potential for success and the risk-reward balance when evaluating the applications for consideration of funding. In all applications it is expected that the future significance for biological investigations in fields of study supported by BER will be described.

Subtopic 2: Prototypes for Biological Hypothesis Research Projects can begin with use-inspired experimental prototypes that will be tested for technical and biological validation but cannot include development to field-ready demonstration prototypes. In addition to technical research and testing, projects must include research to evaluate an untested biological question or hypothesis. Optionally, collaboration with external biological investigators can be included towards evaluating biological hypotheses. The intent of the second subtopic is for technically feasible research that can be tested to demonstrate utility for biological users. Public dissemination of research results can provide demonstration of value to the BER research community and generate interest in adoption of new technologies. Demonstration in living systems is not required, but technical systems must have future impact on in situ imaging, measuring, or modeling of plant- and microbial-based bioeconomy or environmental research. Applications should demonstrate an advantage over current techniques or measure new biological characteristics that could not be accessed with existing approaches. Further, evaluating untested biological hypotheses is required to demonstrate project significance to bioenergy, bioeconomy, or environmental research. Multidisciplinary teams of physical and chemical scientists, plant biologists, microbiologists, and engineers are encouraged to develop high impact imaging and sensing approaches that are inspired by well-defined biological hypotheses. Optional funding for collaboration with investigators outside of the PIs laboratory can be requested in the application for out years two and three. In all applications it is expected that the future significance for biological investigations in fields of study supported by BER will be described. 

Examples of imaging approaches of biological samples relevant to the mission of BER For either subtopic, example approaches of interest include, but are not limited to: • multimodal imaging devices constructed by integrating several different yet complementary optical or non-optical imaging modalities, and merging new, innovative and/or transformational improvements to existing capabilities; • in vivo imaging of plant and microbial systems could include multimodal, multiphoton and nonlinear optical, fluorescence, Raman, and other spectroscopic approaches; • integration of multiple modes of two- and three-dimensional imaging including optical, electromagnetic, isotopic, nuclear spin, quantum sensing approaches; • two-dimensional illumination and detection methods, or that use arrays of irradiation and sensor designs; • super-resolution nanoscopy, light-sheet microscopy, and adaptive optics correlative techniques that combine information from different modalities that can provide contextual and functional information that cannot be assessed with one imaging or sensing approach; and • mechanistic measurement of phenotypes or evaluation of causality within biological systems. Depending on the biological questions to be addressed, fixed samples could provide fast, largescale answers on structure and organization, while unfixed samples could provide dynamic studies over time. Identification of transient molecular associations or sequences of events could produce mechanistic studies that inform cause and effect in biological systems. In situ biological samples should be studied, including both live and fixed biological organisms and communities, but would not include cell-free samples of single molecular species. New image-based measurement modalities will contribute to a broader understanding of the bioenvironment. Integration of physical, chemical, and biological characteristics of biological systems at increased range of spatial and temporal scale could reveal novel biological hypotheses. Chemical imaging could be integrated with other perspectives such as morphological imaging of plants and microbes or with other sensing approaches to soil-based physical measures of flow, transport, porosity, and granularity for environmental context, despite the optical opacity of the subsurface

As a center of learning, innovation, and leadership that shapes and advances effective correctional practice and public policy, NIC is a vital partner in planning, developing, delivering, and supporting training focused on gender-responsive approaches to working with justice-involved women. NIC training helps correctional staff address the significant challenges they face regarding gender-informed facility operations, policies and procedures, and the development and implementation of evidence-based programs and services that meet women’s needs. The growth of knowledge about the types of women who may need to be considered in an agency’s response to women and the management strategies that may be most effective for working with this population has also led to advancements in training.

This solicitation is for a proposal to enter into a 12-month cooperative agreement to coordinate and deliver two trainings each of Gender-Informed Practices in the Management of Women’s Prisons and Justice-Involved Women: Developing an Agencywide Approach, two training programs that address the importance of gender-responsive intervention in a correctional facility.

NIC invites applications from nonprofit organizations (including faith-based, community, and tribal organizations), for-profit organizations (including tribal for-profit organizations), and institutions of higher education (including tribal institutions of higher education). Recipients, including for-profit organizations, must agree to waive any profit or fee for services. Foreign governments, international organizations, and non-governmental international organizations/institutions are not eligible to apply. Proof of 501(c) (3) status as determined by the Internal Revenue Service or an authorizing tribal resolution is required. NIC welcomes applications that involve two or more entities; however, one eligible entity must be the applicant and the others must be proposed as subrecipients. The purpose of this Request for Proposal is to reevaluate risk prediction models and algorithms in the field of cardiovascular and stroke science that have been adjusted for race.  One such example is the Pooled Cohort Equation for atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.¹ The Pooled Cohort Equation predicts 10-year risk for a first atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease event.

In the process of reevaluating the use of race in risk prediction models and algorithms, a researcher might assess the complex interactions among ancestry, race, racism, socioeconomic status and the environment. A researcher may focus on whether removal of race in a clinical algorithm relieves or exacerbates inequities.

Examples of topics that would be responsive to this RFP include:

1. Assessing whether removal of race in a clinical algorithm relieves or exacerbates inequities.

2. Assessing potential bias in clinical published algorithms that include race, correcting for the bias, and identifying factors for the bias.

3. Developing statistical methods and advanced models that mitigate the bias in clinical published algorithms to support equitable care and treatment

Who We're Looking For

• This Request For Proposals (RFP) is targeted to trainees, including pre-doctoral, postdoctoral, and other fellows (within 6 years post doctorate).

  • Each trainee is required to have a letter of support from a mentor.

Award Duration and Amount

• 1-year awards from date of funding. Up to $50,000/year (including 10% indirect costs).

The purpose of this notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) is to support enhanced surveillance and applied research for influenza virus or other respiratory infections in humans and animals in China. This NOFO aims to better define the global risk and to build the evidence for prevention and control of novel, and seasonal avian and non-avian seasonal influenza viruses and other respiratory diseases in China. The scope of research performed will include, but will not be limited to, activities such as estimating the burden and cost of illness for groups at high risk for severe disease; monitoring vaccine uptake and efficacy; promoting vaccine programs for groups at high risk for severe influenza complications; and conducting surveillance for detection and control of novel and seasonal influenza viruses and other respiratory pathogens. Research activities for the prevention and control of novel and seasonal influenza viruses and other respiratory pathogens and pandemic preparedness activities will be aimed at preventing and controlling the spread and transmission within China and potentially to other countries, including the United States. Continued monitoring, detection, and reporting of these influenza viruses and other respiratory pathogens in China will advance global health efforts. These activities will assist to inform global health infection control policies and prevent and control seasonal epidemic and pandemic influenza in countries around the world. This NOFO provides an opportunity to conduct research in these important areas.

The estimated total funding available, including direct and indirect costs, for the entire five (5)-year project period is $4,350,000. The number of awards will be one (1). Awards issued under this NOFO are contingent upon availability of funds and a sufficient number of meritorious applications. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is also anticipated that the size and duration of each award may also vary. The total amount awarded, and the number of awards will depend upon the number, quality, duration and cost of the applications received.

Science benefits from an exchange of ideas, knowledge and approaches across disciplines. Some of the most impactful work in history has come from individuals who studied across fields. Marie Curie was a physicist and a chemist, winning a Nobel prize in both categories. Her contributions to physics were recognized for the discovery of radium, and her isolation of the element earned the prize for chemistry. Louis Pasteur was a chemist whose doctoral thesis focused on arrangement of atoms in solids using crystallography. Following an interest in the molecular asymmetry of biological molecules of microorganisms, he made his famous discovery that microorganisms cause disease. These extraordinary individuals brought knowledge and insight from one field to another and made an outsized impact on the pursuit of scientific understanding.

In this spirit, we invite applications for the Pivot Fellowship program which will support researchers who have a strong track record of success and achievement in their current field, and a deep interest, curiosity and drive to make contributions to a new discipline. The fellowship will enable today’s brightest minds to apply their talent and expertise to a new field and will consist of one training year where the fellow will be embedded in a lab of a mentor to learn the new discipline and its culture. Through this USAID YODA Addendum, the GeoCenter aims to provide a vehicle for increasing the availability of and access to open geospatial data by engaging with youth-led and youth-serving organizations, among others, and systems to generate cross-sectoral, positive youth development outcomes. This Addendum disseminates information to prospective Applicants so they may develop and submit Concept Notes in response and ultimately to be considered for USAID funding. This Addendum describes and provides:

● The type of activities for which Concept Notes will be considered;

● Available funding, process, and requirements for submitting Concept Notes and Full Applications;

● The Criteria for evaluating Concept Notes; and

Through the USAID Youth Open Geospatial Data Activity (USAID YODA) Addendum to the YouthPower 2 (YP2) Annual Program Statement (APS) No. 7200AA20APS00007, the USAID GeoCenter intends to empower local communities by equipping university-aged youth to use open source geospatial data and technology to address local challenges. Concepts should focus on youth development of skills to create new geographic data, make maps, and perform geospatial analysis using remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS). Concepts should also emphasize the creation of geospatial data as a digital public good (DPG) to support local resilience, economic opportunity, and overall citizen empowerment.

Data and analyses created as part of this Addendum will address USAID priorities such as climate change, public health, food security, gender equity, and those that serve development and humanitarian assistance efforts. USAID’s principles of equity and  inclusion are paramount and should be integral to any program considered under this APS. Subject to the availability of funds, the USAID GeoCenter anticipates supporting one to three new awards of up to $7.5 million over the course of five years.

Our goals are, therefore, twofold:

• To mentor future medical geneticists who are embarking on a career in academic medicine and grow the medical genetics workforce

• To provide medical genetics training to physician-scientists in other fields who engage in medical genetics-related research, which will enhance the clinical knowledge-base of those specialists who may be most likely to use genetic testing or treatments in their practices.

Lasker Clinical Research Scholars Program

The National Institutes of Health, in partnership with the Lasker Foundation, is pleased to announce the 2024 Lasker Clinical Research Scholars Program. This is an opportunity for up to 10 years of funding for clinical researchers. 

The Lasker Scholars program supports a small number of exceptional clinical researchers to promote their development as early stage independent investigators. This unique program provides Scholars with five to seven years of support as an independent principal investigator in the NIH Intramural Research Program (IRP), followed by up to 3 years of funding at an extramural research institution. Scholars may also have the opportunity to remain in the IRP rather than leaving for an extramural position, by mutual agreement.

During the IRP (Si2) phase, Lasker Scholars will be offered competitive salaries, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and will be provided research space, supported personnel positions and a research operating budget. In some cases, Lasker Scholars may be able to maintain an affiliation with their previous institution while working at the NIH. During the extramural (R00) phase, successful Scholars receive up to $500,000 in direct costs per year for their research program.

Candidates must have a clinical doctoral degree (MD, MD/PhD, DO, DDS, DMD, RN/PhD or equivalent) from an accredited domestic or foreign institution and must have a professional license to practice in the United States. The program is intended for investigators at the early stages of their independent careers, and candidates cannot have already obtained tenure at a research institution. Applicants generally will have completed or will be completing a post-residency clinical fellowship and will have demonstrated significant patient-oriented research experience to qualify for a tenure-track level appointment.

The Venture Fellows Program is currently available to Washington University postdoctoral researchers and offers an intensive 6-month curriculum that provides experiential learning in venture capital investing and company creation, as participating Fellows work alongside entrepreneurs, investors, and faculty in the St. Louis ecosystem. In addition, the program offers exposure to biotech startups, with hands-on training to develop capabilities across the spectrum from deal flow generation to exit opportunity evaluation.  

Venture Fellows will utilize their scientific and analytical skills to learn how to:

• Provide analyses of potential investments through written and oral recommendations, including all aspects of the technology and business. 

• Engage with venture capital experts and successful entrepreneurs

Grant Term and Budget

Awards are for up to 3 years with recently increased progressive stipends of $66,000, $68,000, and $70,000 a year.

Depending on availability of special endowment funds, the American Cancer Society (ACS) annually selects one or more of the top-ranked fellowships to be supplemented above the standard stipend.

Fellowship Allowances: Fellows will receive $4,000 a year to help defray costs such as health insurance, workshop costs, and expenses associated with presenting at a domestic scientific meeting.

In the last year, an additional $1,500 is added to the fellowship allowance for PFs to attend either the ACS Postdoctoral Fellows Symposium or a domestic scientific meeting.

The Institute of Clinical and Translational Sciences (ICTS), Research Development Program will host their Winter NIH Mock Study Section on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. via Zoom. The NIH Mock Study Section is designed to simulate an actual NIH study section. Clinical and translational R, K, and F series grant applications submitted to the Mock Study Section will be reviewed, critiqued, and scored by three faculty members as well as other study section members.

The Misophonia Research Fund has invested over $13 million in funding over the past six years, spurring the growth of this burgeoning research field, driving the initiation and progress of research studies, and delivering long-awaited answers for those living with misophonia.

The Fellows-to-Faculty Award program supports talented early-career scientists and their research vision as they transition into tenure-track or equivalent faculty positions.

Established in 2013, with an initial 10 awards, more than 150 postdoctoral fellows have received the PDEP award to date.  BWF has invested more than $9 million dollars in diversity enrichment programming and continues to provide support through a vast network of former and current grant recipients.

Beginning with the 2023-2024 grant cycle, BWF and the Charles H. Revson Foundation are proud to announce a collaboration aimed at expanding diversity and inclusion in the scientific research community. This partnership supports minority scientists' advancement and enhances their contributions to various fields of research.

Through PDEP, the Charles H. Revson Foundation will fund up to five additional fellowships to postdoctoral researchers at institutions located within the New York Metro area.  PDEP award recipients being supported by the Charles H. Revson Foundation will be recognized as BWF PDEP/Revson Scholars.

This fellowship is an opportunity for talented, early-career scientists to pursue pioneering research into critical aspects of the brain.

Kanzer Fellows will be welcomed into the institute's vibrant intellectual community with broad-ranging collaboration opportunities. We encourage Fellows from a diversity of disciplines and from groups who have traditionally been underrepresented in science, technology, engineering, and math fields (STEM) to apply. We welcome Fellows interested in carrying out collaborative research across the Zuckerman Institute under the mentorship of one or more faculty mentors and will promote their mentorship in an inclusive learning environment. Strong preference will be given to early-career applicants who received their Ph.D. less than one year prior to their start date.

New in 2025! Mid-Career “Bridge to Breathe” Award: This program will support established mid-career investigators who are seeking bridge funding to sustain their lung cancer research program while they resubmit their application for federal funding (NIH R01) or its equivalent. Mid-career investigators are often burdened by increasing administrative demands that jeopardize their ability to conduct cutting-edge research that will generate the new treatments and potential cures of tomorrow. This new mechanism is part of LUNGevity’s ongoing commitment to workforce development and is intended to maintain a robust pipeline of thoracic oncology leaders and research. This is a $150,000 two-year award.

ASTRO-LUNGevity Residents/Fellows in Radiation Oncology Seed Grant: This program will foster and develop the research careers of residents and fellows interested in radiation oncology-related basic, translational, and/or clinical research to benefit patients with lung cancer. This is a $50,000 one-year award.

Career Development Award: This program supports future research leaders who will keep the field of lung cancer research vibrant with new ideas. Funded projects are expected to have a direct impact on the early detection of lung cancer or on the outcomes of lung cancer, or to provide a clear conceptual or experimental foundation for the future development of methods for early detection and/or individualized treatment, including through targeted therapy and immunotherapy. This is a $300,000 three-year award.

Health Equity and Inclusiveness Research Fellow Award:  This program supports fellows who belong to underrepresented minorities in STEM who are interested in lung cancer research. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree, be pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship, and plan to pursue a career in lung cancer. This is a $100,000 two-year award.

VA Research Scholar Award: This program supports investigators interested in lung cancer research within the VA System. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree and either be pursuing a postdoctoral fellowship program or be junior faculty within the first five years of their faculty appointment at the time of application. This is a $100,000 two-year award.

Recent PhDs from across all fields of the humanities and interpretive social sciences are encouraged to apply for this fellowship. ACLS believes that inclusion, equity, and diversity enhance the scholarly enterprise. It is a priority of the Leading Edge Fellowship program that the application and selection process be broadly inclusive and welcoming of different backgrounds, cultures, and any aspects that make one unique, including disciplinary background and university affiliation, as well as socioeconomic, racial, gender, and other aspects of identity.

ACLS will hold two webinars for applicants to the 2025 ACLS Leading Edge Fellowship, offering real-time feedback on questions about eligibility, the online application, and the fellowship review and selection process. Please register for February 10 or March 5.
