2) Teachers need to refine students' communication skills.  Higher degree of literacy is needed because your entire life can be online, and students need to be able to present themselves in an intellectual way.  With more advanced forms of communications and the job field altering by the day, students need to amp up their literacy level.

3) Literacy used to be a lot more paper/pencil, and independent. In this day and age, literacy is a lot more collaborative and requires a level of multi-tasking.

4) Society expects digital literacy in that entire lives are condensed into a social networking site. Students are not as afraid to share parts of their personal lives because of the digital connectedness. 2) Individuals are communicating more through written communication due to technology and the need to be efficient in a fast-pace world.
3) Students are less verbal and are utilizing more forms of informal technology-based communication. Students are getting a lot of practice in writing, but not a lot of formal communication practice.

2. Recruiters may see skills on social media, but not skills of writing and grammar; concern that today's students don't know how to communicate face to face; need to teach purposeful writing - research vs. text talk 

3. Communication is more creative, but less grammatically correct; group work is frequently digitally based (Google Doc/Sheet /Presentation) and not discussion

4. Students need to be able to adapt to the real world - digital may not be the only option
- Resume is on "paper", even if interview is Skype
- Reading and understanding contracts/ taxes/how to balance a "checkbook" whether digital or paper
- When the power and/or internet goes out

More jobs (even trade jobs) are becoming more digital and being able to communicate with people on different levels is important. 
3. Expectations are much higher and students have more access to knowledge and resources to peak their interests.

Kids have to understand what is good information verses what is bad...  Students losing ability to use multiple articles/information... Students need to use a more advanced vocabulary....
3.  Information needs to be simplified... Because of the speed at which students want to react, they're not developing proper processing skills to comprehend.
4. Any documents that need to be signed, individuals must know what they are actually signing (EX: more leases having to be signed online).. Communication (reading and writing)....the frequency is higher due to digital access and ease of sending and receiving.  It is not lengthy and lacks the quality of writing in the past. https://padlet.com/aprildavala1_1/ogm7gc37vjvm/wish/116931206 2. As times change, the standards have to change.  There may not be a higher level of need, it is just a different need.  3.  Literacy has been broken down into more specialized categories.  There are new additions like digital literacy, gaming literacy, understanding websites (speaking "computer language"), educational, business, media, etc.

3. There was no differentiation in literacy instruction when we were in school. This includes differentiation by ability level and differentiation of types of activity. Learning was not personalized
