To begin the study, they handed out a questionnaire to 143 students (all undergraduate students) on the questionnaire there were 3 simple questions about how the students use laptops. The participants could answer the questions on a scale of 1 to 5 (1 being stongley disagree and 5 being strongly agree). Once they had the questionnaires back they then calculated the average answer for each question. Then after this they conducted a correlation test where they pulled 21 undergrad students from a different college and gave them the same questionnaire, ultimately determining that the questionnaire was a reliable source.

I believe this study was reliable and a beneficial study but, It would be interesting if for this study they actually attended a lecture and sat in the back row of the lecture hall and actually observed what people are doing on their laptops during a lecture. I feel like it would of also benefitted the study if they gave the questionnaire to high school students to see if the results would be the same.

As a teacher this has to be a hard thing to tackle because technology is becoming more relevant in education that it ever has before. As a teacher I would allow students to use their laptops in class for taking notes and research. If they begin using their laptops for uneducational purposes, I will have to ban laptops in my classroom. Now that I have this knowledge from this research study, I feel like I will be able to spot students not doing what they are suppose to easier and know how to handle the situation beforehand.

As a teacher in todays society you have to be able to determine when technology is getting out of hand and when it starts distracting students from learning. Even though some people might have different opinions about technology, as teachers we need to be able to draw the line when laptops and such are getting distracting.
