All players competing do not have headgear, or pads during the run it straight. Technique is also lacking when it comes to this as people who sign up are not trained athletes competing. Along with this there is no weight class which can cause serious damage for those who have a smaller build. It is highly likely that when you compete you will get injured regardless if you win or not.

The Run It Straight competition is reckless and dangerous, prioritising entertainment over participant safety. With head knocks, seizures, and experts warning of long-term brain damage, it’s clear the event poses serious health risks. Offering large cash prizes to potentially vulnerable people only adds to the exploitation. While some celebrate the hits and hype, no thrill justifies risking permanent injury or shortening lives. This is not sport — it’s harmful spectacle, and it should not be encouraged in our communities.

Run it straights are good because they test courage, strength, and commitment in a simple and direct way. They strip the game back to its basics — one player against another, no evasive tricks, just pure physical contest. This can build resilience, improve tackling and ball-carrying skills, and strengthen team bonds through mutual respect. While they do carry a risk of injury, with proper technique and control they can be a safe and valuable way to develop confidence and toughness in players.

"Run it Straight" is a brutal but celebrated aspect of rugby culture, where two players charge directly into each other in a raw test of strength and courage. To some, it is nothing more than a dangerous collision, with the potential for concussions, broken bones, and long-term brain damage overshadowing any entertainment value. Yet for others, it serves as a controlled outlet for emotion — a moment where aggression, adrenaline, and team pride can be channelled into a single, high-impact play. In many communities, especially at grassroots level, it’s seen as a rite of passage, a way of proving resilience and earning respect. The debate lies in whether this tradition is a reckless glorification of danger, or a deeply ingrained emotional release that embodies the spirit of the game.

Run It Straight provides individuals, particularly young men, with an outlet for emotions, frustration, and aggression in a supervised and controlled environment. But, in my opinion, it is not worth it as it often causes major physical injuries in head-on collisions. It seems to just reinforce the toxic standards society has around masculinity. It seems that people are trying to prove that their pain and bravery make them superior and tougher than others. Therefore, I believe it is a dangerous game rather than a fair and safe outlet for emotions that is detrimental to the norms in modern society that are often overlooked already.

The Run It Straight Tournament is thrilling and easy to follow, with big collisions that test courage and strength while exciting the crowd. However, its high injury risk, focus on brute force over varied skills, and repetitive nature limit its long-term appeal.

i think that the run it straight competition is a entertaining display of two people strength, bravery and resiliance. I also like how this even brings many people together in the community. However this competition appears to be a double edged sword where competitors are at risk of permanant injury or even death. With this i think that athletes should be more protected with some sort of head protection and rule enforcement of the contact area

I think Run It Straight can go both ways. Sure, it’s dangerous because you are literally running full force into someone, so injuries are always a risk. But at the same time it can be a real outlet for emotion. Sometimes you just need a way to let out frustration or adrenaline, and this gives you that release in a controlled space. For me it’s about balance, knowing your limits but still enjoying the rush.
