You are responsible for treating several patients who have recently been diagnosed with overuse/sprain injuries to a variety of joints including the shoulder, wrist, and ankle. Utilizing one of the teaching strategies (demonstrating, written communication, lecture, or discussion) prepare a lesson plan to teach your patients the RICE protocol. You can upload a video, write a post, or snap a picture of your plan. You must respond to at least one other classmate's post.

In the case of a finger sprain involving the proximal interphalangeal joint do the following:
Rest: Limit movement as much as possible. Buddy taping is often used to assist with this. Buddy taping means you would tape the injured finger to a finger right next to it. This will help keep your finger immobilized.
Ice: Apply ice for about 10 minutes 3-4 times a day.
Compression: Buddy taping can also be a form of compression, use ace bandages or tape to provide light compression.
Elevate: Elevate the hand above the heart, especially during icing.

Grace Burke
