Hi there!
My name is Matthew Belan, and I am a resident of Hamilton, Ontario.
I am interested in teaching ESL as I previously worked as a professor at Niagara College, and I faced some barriers interacting with ESL students. I did, however, enjoy their willingness to learn, and made my job very rewarding. I hope to refine my teaching abilities in this program. In regards to my hobbies, I play video games on a competitive level, and spend a lot of time "training" for tournaments that I attend.

Harbir Dyer - Intro

Hello, my name is Harbir and I live in Burlington, Ontario.
This is my first TESL course and the only course I am currently taking.
Teaching ESL is something I have been thinking about doing for a couple of years. It seems now is the time to jump in and see if it is the right fit.
I find I enjoy interacting with students and playing a role in their learning. I naturally gravitate to such experiences, from home-educating my children to currently tutoring math to instructing at a math and reading centre, or just simply helping at a student event. As our area’s population is growing, we are seeing more and more students, where English is not the first language at home, coming to our math and reading centre. It is a great opportunity for us to provide support and encouragement to these students and their parents.
I enjoy learning and am motivated when I am challenged. Learning to teach ESL will be challenging since developing a lesson plan and teaching in a classroom setting is all new to me.
Besides working with students, I enjoy walking, exercising, spending time with family, quiet moments and doing math for fun. Yes, I am a math geek!

Hello! My name is Andrew McCormick Johnson and I live in Cambridge, Ontario. I am interested in teaching ESL because teaching itself is a field in which I have great interest. I originally completed my Masters in history at the University of Waterloo in the hopes of going into a career in academia. It proved to be difficult to find, and while I still hope that some day I will be able to do something related to the teaching of history, I soon became interested in the possibilities of teaching ESL when I realized what a thriving, growing field of education it was. I was privileged enough to observe some classes being taught at Conestoga College and I was immediately taken with how committed both the teachers and the students were and how much they enjoyed themselves. I found the prospect of teaching a subject that would be directly beneficial to those looking to work or live in Canada to be extremely rewarding, and consequently I feel that in pursuing this field of study I have made the right decision.

Hello everyone My name is Louise Seguin and I live in Kitchener. This is my first ESL course. Last year I retired from 28 years of being a classroom teacher. I also completed my MEd degree from Laurier. I wanted to continue working in the education field, but I wanted a change. I have always been interested in second-language learning, having learned French as my second language. I currently teach a beginners' French course at Conestoga College, and would love to eventually teach ESL or LINC courses.
