The "fools" in the play are battling lovers at a run-down Mojave Desert motel. May is staying at the motel when an old flame, Eddie, shows up. Eddie tries to convince May to come back to him and live in a trailer on a farm in Wyoming that Eddie has always wanted to buy and where he has always imagined living with May. May vehemently refuses. She says that she has absolutely no interest in living with Eddie under such circumstances, that she has a job and started a new life and knows that if she goes back to Eddie their relationship will repeat the same destructive cycle it has followed before. Throughout the play the character of the Old Man—apparently the father of both lovers—sits to the side and talks to May and Eddie and offers commentary on each character and about himself. It is revealed that the Old Man had led a double life, abandoning each family for different periods during each child's life. The two became lovers in their high school years and when their parents finally figured out what had occurred, Eddie's mother shot herself. May is afraid that Eddie has begun to emulate his father; taking to drinking and secretly seeing a woman May refers to as the Countess. The play centers around the drama of the confrontation rather than a plot with any rising and falling action. In the end Eddie appears to have left May, just as his father had left his mother, and May has packed her suitcase to go off somewhere unspecified. Eddie and May have not reconciled, the Old Man has begun to drift off in denial that Eddie's mother had been driven to suicide, and May's erstwhile date, Martin, is left on stage bewildered to observe it all.

My story is of a girl that is trying to save her boyfriend from being an alcoholic, the relationship turns abusive and he becomes controlling. My idea stemmed from the play 'Fools for Love' and I was originally planning on having monologues from the play played over the top of the videos but I later decided against this as when choreographing my piece it moved away from following the story line. My starting idea was to have the first part of my dance showing what happened before the story told in the play and how they got to that place, then for the second half I was going to develop those motifs and tell the story from the play. When I was creating my dance I was choreographing everything for the pub location but realised if I was trying to tell this story then I would need to have two locations, the pub and a motel. As I was choreographing my ideas started to change and develop.

I had contacted my location a couple weeks before we were due to record to confirm that they were still happy for me to carry out this process and also to question what would be the quietest time of the week for us to film as I didn't want to be annoying the staff and customers by getting in the way and having music playing. After agreeing a time and date we got there and it was still very busy and people were sat eating where I had planned to dance, I couldn't move to a different area of the pub as I needed to be near the bar and bar stools because I had choreographed my piece using it. It was very busy and one of the managers told us that they are rarely quiet and I knew that there was never going to be any guarantee of someone not sitting where I wanted to film. We visited another pub which turned out to be just as busy. I spoke to my teacher about the location issues I was having and he suggested using the Mulberry Cafe which is a restaurant at college, with me being a student I was hopeful that they would be willing to let me film there after they had closed so I wouldn't need to worry about customers.

My site specific dead line ended up getting pushed back as I was facing issues with my location. After the Mulberry Cafe got back to me I set up a day that week to go record my piece. I was concerned about not remembering all my choreography as it had been months since I last rehearsed it, I did have videos from rehearsal I had filmed to post on here to show my progress each week but they were lost. Me and my partner had a rehearsal on the day we were going to film to recap what I had originally choreographed. We didn't get the piece to exactly how I had choreographed it as a lot of the timing was different but at this point I was more focused on getting this assignment completed to the best I could so I tried not to worry about it not being exactly the same as what it originally was. I wasn't completely happy but my deadline had already been pushed back by months and I knew I had to get this filmed today and handed in so I couldn't keep rehearsing all week.

This process was extremely difficult, I wish I could of stayed at my location all evening to get the exact set up I wanted and to film from different angles like I had planned. When I arrived there I found out we didn't have long to film as there were cleaners that needed to be out by a certain time and obviously they couldn't finish all there jobs whilst I was dancing in that space.I couldn't move the furniture around much because of the ladies cleaning in those areas so when doing things like the lift off Euan I was conscious of kicking the sofas. At the start of my piece I was meant to do a backwards roll off my chair which worked out fine in rehearsals but after a couple of at this at my location where the floors were very slippy and a lot harder and the chairs weren't as strong I had to take this out because the chair kept sliding from underneath me which looked messy and it was hurting me to fall onto the hard floor. When I stand on the table it is meant to look like I am going to run off it but I couldn't stand on the edge of it because it only had one leg in the centre whereas the desk I had been rehearsing on were really stable. The section were we are sat at the bar was meant to be filmed head on but we only had time to film from one angle which meant that was had to change a lot of the spacing. Only being able to film from one angle would had been fine it I could of moved the sofas so I could of got a wide space to move around in. After watching the piece back a saw movements that made my technique not look strong, when I did my turn leap my back leg in meant to much but because I trying to be spatially aware and worried about slipping on the floor I think I didn't perform full out.
