Imprinting with Lorenz

Lorenz proposed that attachment formed when infants are in a critical imprinting period. This is the time in which the baby first sees a living thing. Lorenz conducted a test where infant goslings were hatched and saw him first and then another 4 baby goslings seeing the real mother. He then put them together and watched which goslings would run where. Lorenz found that the goslings that saw him first ran to him and the infants that was the mother first ran to the mother. Thus, he concluded that this critical period is the first moments of the infants life especially the first living thing it see.
