Maybe more visual documents could help such as site analysis chart/diagrams, some images for the proposed solutions 

The cinema business wasnt owned for long by Finnkino when the large movie theatre company decided to close the doors of its old competitor in the summer of 2017.

Closing the theater was not enough for Finnkino, but they also got rid of its historical furniture.

What happened got a lot of media attention and a local crowd  began to fight for the place. A group of Lappeenranta-based artists and cultural influencers founded the Kulttuuritila Nuijamies association in October 2017. 

The purpose of the association is primarily to save the cinema built in the 50’s from demolition and declare it a heritage. Their other aim is to expand the cultural offer strengthen the networking of cultural actors and provide a decent performance space in Lappeenranta.

The association started collecting funds by creating events in the space and applying for cultural grants succesfully and is now negotiationg with the property owner about buying the space. Also declaring the building heritage seems to be on Lappeenrantas agenda although nothing is yet decided.

 

What was different is this group of culturally orientated volunteers opposing a corporation the size of Finnkino and the great thing was the support and the attention they were gettin from people of Lappeenranta and the case became known all over the country.

They not only wanted to save the building from demolition but also had an idea how to reuse it and give benefit to the community who was also fighting for it.

Especially great in a sleepy town the size of lappeenranta. I never would have believed there existed this potential
