My grandparents from my dad's side wanted a better future and income to provide for my Dad and auntie. There were more opportunities here, so they sacrificed leaving the rest of their family behind to come to the US. Knowing that they could never return to Mexico they crossed the border. It was a terrifying experience for them, they could've gotten caught at any moment. Since they lived in Veracruz which was quite far from the border it was a bit harder. Though scary they did make it through.

Some obstacles that they faced were income and the language barrier. Coming to the US was hard without any of these things. This is why they sent my dad and aunt to school, so they could learn English. That was probably the greatest obstacle they faced coming here. They were able to find work but it would pay very little. This is why my grandparents raised two kids to achieve more since they had that opportunity now. My dad said to me that learning English was tough and of course, like any other Spanish-speaking student was put into ELD.
