2) Women’s empowerment is a necessity for solving extreme poverty. Do you agree or disagree?

Agree:

1-     Women represent a big portion of poverty so helping them is like solving poverty. As mentioned by Lefton (2013) “Any poverty agenda must focus on women because they are 70% of the world’s poor” empowering women is a way to help them get out of the state of poverty.

2-     For a country to tackle poverty it would require a strong economy and a way to achieve that state is through empowering women. Lefton (2013) “Women earn 10% of all income, and yet they produce half of the world’s food” Women can have an effective role in the society if they were given opportunities since they are facing problems such as harassment and pay gap. 3-     Inequality is a barrier that is stopping countries to achieve the SDG goals which contain eliminating poverty. “women play a major role in agriculture development” “however they can’t own land in some countries” kyte (2015) this is limiting countries to achieve their potential economically , socially and environmentally which causes a barrier to sustainable development.

Disagree:

1-     disagree because there are alternative way which are more effective in solving the problem such as suppling the poor with energy that would give them opportunities to develop. “small scale solar power is dramatically changing the lives of the poor people, lighting up their homes with low-cost solar system” Kyte (2015) providing people with energy is a more efficient way to end poverty since in can bring a greater income to the house hold rather than the women working
