One activity I’d like to implement is the creation activity. I would also like to explore more outdoor spaces that we can carry out activities with the children.

I would like to try the plant scavenger hunt with my infants class. But will modify to suit their age.

Scavenger hunt

What can be done if children are unwilling to participate in the outdoor learning activity? Or if they are uninterested in heading outdoors? Any tips to manage this situation?

A variety of leaves in different shapes, sizes, and textures were provided for the infants to explore. These were placed in shallow trays or plates on the floor, making them easily accessible and allowing the infants to choose freely. Before starting the main activity, infants were given ample time to explore the textures of the paper materials. Throughout the experience, educators asked simple, open-ended questions such as, 'Do you like the texture of this leaf?' to encourage interaction and response. The activity concluded with the infants pasting dry leaves onto DIY frames, supporting their fine motor development and allowing for individual creative expression.

The children truly enjoyed the activity, and it was amazing to see their ideas grow when given the freedom to create what they wanted.

Through this activity, I learned the importance of letting children explore their imagination and encouraging them to keep creating rather than being satisfied with their first attempt. Many started simply by creating a face with eyes, a nose, and a mouth. But as they explored further, they began adding more thoughtful details such as ears, hair, and cheeks.

The children truly enjoyed themselves through this activity, and it was fascinating to see the different ideas that they have. Some of them even requested a certain toy that they wished to use for the activity.

Through this activity, I have learned that we should not restrict children when it comes to creativity. We should encourage them and even prompt them further, and allow them to come up with different ideas.
