Hi everyone.
The thing I decided to fix that was broken held special meaning to me. Mainly because of what it contained. To get to why that is, first I'm going to give a slight background story. It'll be short, I promise. Recently, we decided to move and in the process of moving one of our picture frames was broken. This might be no big deal to some, however, not only was the frame lost due to being damaged but the picture as well. It was misplaced. This was a picture of my late grandmother Kei whom I'm named after. Anyways, long story short, I managed to find an old photo album recently with a similar pic. Granted it's not the exact same. But there's only so few pictures I have left of her. So I decided to mend what was broken so to speak and recreate my own version of the picture frame. I got the inspiration from the artist Rossana Toarmina with her work involving photographs. Yet wanted to make a sort of more 3-Dimensional approach with the fake flowers. First off, the picture itself is extremely old, so as not to damage it, I photocopied it, and then laminated it. Once I did that, I then cut up the card board backing to a used sketchbook to use as the backing for the frame. Using painter's tape to keep it together. Then glued the laminated photo to the cardboard backing. Then I hot glued jute chord to the frame to outline it. Afterward I then hot glued the fake flowers into an arrangement. For the final touch I applied some metallic floral stickers that sort of pop up. Adding to the somewhat 3D effect of the fake flower arrangement.

I don’t know why I never fixed it but it’s been sitting on a shelf all decapitated and it made me sad just looking at it.

Hello!
The only thing that came to mind that was in need of repair was my old canvas! I had been working on painting this album cover about a year ago but never finished it. I was recently rearranging my canvases and was too rough while placing a couple down resulting in the large rip. I have always wanted to sew a canvas and i saw this repair as the perfect opportunity. I grabbed some yard and two colors of thread and just started sewing the canvas shut. It was very fun to add the stitches on the tear, like an accessory to the rip. The above picture is the final result.

For this project I wanted to fix a broken bottle that was just lying around in my backyard. I always see the broken glass pieces whenever I go out there so I finally decided it was time for it to get some repairs. My artistic decisions were inspired by the concept of Kintsugi and the idea of an object being more beautiful for having been broken. I wanted to mend the object but I didn’t want the broken bits to disappear but to be illuminated in the new design. With that in mind, I chose a bright red thread, contrasting with the dark bottle, to piece the bottle back together, as one might do with clothing. I wanted to mend this bottle in an unusual way, so I thought that “sewing” the glass pieces together would be very unexpected and still bring attention to the cracks others would try to hide. There are gaps in the bottle still missing so this bottle is obviously not useable anymore for its intended purpose but I think it has gained a new life thorough this assignment, and looks a lot more visually appealing now as a “franken-bottle design” than a pile of broken pieces outside.

The next thing I did was fit all the pieces together and temporarily hold it with tape. This was one of the hardest parts because some pieces were missing and some were too small to accurately attach. I actually like that the finished product still has some bigger glass spots missing because it allowed me to do bigger stitching in those spots and drew the eye there. When I found out that one side of the bottle had the most missing pieces, I decided that that would be the “front” of the artwork to really display the parts and negative space that others might see as flaws.

It’s stitching time! I originally wanted to drill holes into each piece and actually sew them together but after a little test run on a smaller piece, I found out that not only does it take ages to do, but it shatters the glass after a certain point. The next best option was to glue the thread to give off the illusion that it was sewn together. Perhaps if I had better tools or more time I would have been able to sew the pieces in a similar manner like I originally intended but I’m still happy with the current look. I still had bigger holes in the bottle that were missing pieces so I decided to stitch those in a zigzag pattern vs the single stitch I did on the touching parts. I think that helped to give those areas a patched look while the others sort of reminded me of Frankenstein. At the end of this step, I attached a thick needle on some thread to the lip of the bottle to further the illusion.

I found some scraps of construction paper in the colors black and red and decided to cut out flowy organic shapes, which I thought sort of resembled a liquid of some sort. I kept adding shapes around the edges until I was satisfied with the look and thought it felt pretty balanced. The red paper was a bit lighter than the string of the bottle so I found a darker red fabric to use as the very back color.

Another progress photo, here you can see I went through with my idea. I also added fake flowers to make it look more natural and like a forest. Before I took off the ribbon, I was trying really hard to paint around the ribbon but it was too much trouble. I ended up removing it entirely at this point. I also decided to add some little rocks so you could tell that this was meant to be a path.

I got a little too focused and forgot to take a photo mid-process here. Basically I attached a strap across the back, and then did decorative binding around the arm hole. In the process I remembered I don't actually like halter tops very much, so I brought the binding up around the collar and turned it into straps. After this all that was left was to attach the ruffle at the bottom and it was done! Well, sort of. Then I remembered the whole point in making your own dresses is that you can put pockets on them, so I have to go finish attaching those now (but it was getting late and I wanted to submit it since I got to 'wearable' before midnight).

This is the final result! I’m so happy with it! It is very representative of the things I currently love; skulls and botanical items, plus I was able to use my favorite color scheme. I plan on putting my figures in here so it could look like they are in a little forest area. I really enjoyed this project! I will say though, adding the moss was the hardest part since I had to do every small strand one by one, it was so worth it though because I love how it came out. I have included extra photos below to show some different angles of my piece.

hello everyone :) so what i decided to do for this project was useful room decor with things forgotten in my room and by things I mean old polaroids. I had this idea few days ago about glueing together old polaroids i don't necesarely want anymore and making a canvas and paint over it, but it wasn't in 3D so I thought to myself how could I do something in 3d but still use the polaroids, so I decided to glue together all my unwanted old polaroids and makes cute room decor with them, I decided to make a heart and I actually really love how it turned out and definitely will do more.
