This painting shows a poor family sitting all together to enjoy their austere, but precious for them, meal. Which is of course... potatoes. What I feel when I see this painting, is a mix of various and different feelings. Firstly, I can feel the love between the people depicted, as they all sit down to enjoy their meal together. However, the coldiness of the colors as well as the sad and tired expressions, on their faces, creates a cold and sorrowful feeling to the viewer. In conclusion, this picture reminds me of the weak, tired and poor caste.

Viewing notes: I first saw this painting at a very young age, and I admire it ever since. The way the wind is captured in circular motions, the way the stars look like planets doing a race towards the moon by rolling on the mountains and the night sky, these were the things I noticed first in this painting. In addition to those, it reminds me of a sad winter day, when all the flowers are dead, and no other joy is left, in the human soul.
