These so called cash crops consist of rice, indigo, tobacco, sugarcane, and cotton. The landowners owned big plots of land called plantations. On these plantations there were slaves and indentured servants worked on the land to grow the crops. Another source of economy was slave trade because South Carolina was the center for american slave trade in the 1700's.
