         <description><![CDATA[<p>It was built by&nbsp;Edward I during his conquest of Wales, between 1283 and 1289. Constructed as part of a wider project to create the walled town of Conwy, the combined defences cost around £15,000, a huge sum for the period.</p>]]></description>

It now attracts over 150,000 visitors a year.</li><li>Conwy Castle sits upon a huge ridge of grey sandstone and limestone. Much of the stone from which it is built has been taken from the rock upon which it sits.</li><li>It has eight towers and a high curtain wall forming a rectangle shape.</li></ul></p>]]></description>
