From theses two lines we can see the young woman is uneasy and anxious and she urgently needs to do something to distract from her suffocative life.

The young woman is curious about the details of the murder, maybe she begins to have the thought of killing his husband by this way.

The young woman still eager to find true love and has expectation of love even she married a man that she doesn't like.

In the face of a court that insists on “rules and regulations”, the woman's answer of “to be free” seems ridiculous. In this mechanical world, if one wants to pursue freedom, the ultimate outcome will be “crime”(exaggerated expression).

The young woman's words were fragmented. She appeared very passive when questioned and this was even more obvious when she was confronted by the judge.

What I think most shocking is that young women think the “harm” of divorce is greater than that of murder. The absurd conversation also reveals the alienation of people in society.

At the episode 1，almost every people in the office speak the telegram-sentence unless they are gossipping. This kind of language style and the performance strength the unhuman feel of YOUNG WOMAN's colleagues，making them sound like robots and intensifying the impression of metallic city where YOUNG WOMEN live. This could allow audiences more directly got the desperate feeling that YOUNG WOMEN has. Live in such a mechanical environment and surrounded by these robot-like people，isn't it stressful？

It could be understood as the alienation by the economy.

Secondly，readers could find YOUNG WOMEN has many chaotic monologues in this play. They maybe hard to paraphrase and also chunk，but they could also show the deepest desires in YOUNG WOMEN. For example，at the end of EPISODE 1，her monologue shows her internal conflicts after her know Mr. J's proposal. Of course she wants to marry，but not with Mr.J. She wants love and she feel disgusted about Mr.J（Judged by her flinch when touched by him）. She attaches great importance to protect her hands（remembering her gloves），therefore she immediately notices Mr.J's hands. Thats the first conflict can see in her monologue. She first submits（married with J，listens to her Mom） and finally she acceptes her desires（She has exmarital affairs and murdered her husband）.

Her desires and the cruel reality produce her conflicts and pressure，which make her a tragedy.

2.suffocated. young woman said words like drowning, stifling

The opening part, “The words and movements of all these people except the YOUNG WOMAN are routine – mechanical. Each is going through the motions of his own game.”（Treadwell 61), reveals the courtroom as a system composed of “mechanical”components. Their actions are “routine”, creating a contrast with the young woman who is willing to murder for “freedom”.
