In this news article, Afghan girls are expressing their dissatisfaction with the Taliban's recent closing of four of their schools. Articles such as these really put into perspective how easy it is to take something like education for granted. These closures come just a few weeks after the Taliban leadership told an Al Jazeera rep that they working on creating "safe environments" for women and girls. However currently, there are roughly 3 million girls that are band from getting a secondary education.

This article highlights the response to the recent ban on girls from attending school in Afghanistan. Instead of accepting and fearing the Taliban, many girls are taking it upon themselves to educate each other, hoping the "dark cloud" will pass.

This article accounts a recent unintentional bombing that killed 4 little children. This was especially upsetting because it is a constant reminder to the Afghan people that although things may have settled, they seemingly will never truly be at peace.

This article was made possible by reporter Rahim Faiez from the Associated Press. In this piece, the UN understandably pleads with the Taliban to treat its people especially their women with more regard. This is necessary do the recent reports of harassment, as well as the recent ban the Taliban has put on secondary age age school.

Kabul attack: Death toll rises to 35 mostly ‘girls, young women’

A suicide bombing at an education center left about 35 dead, and 82 wounded. Surprisingly enough, most of the victims were young girls and women, leading to a whole slew of protests. A rival terrorist group to the Taliban called ISIL, had reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack. Women and women's education have seemed to always be focal for these terrorist groups. I believe that it is unfair and that the United Nations has to put up more of a more valiant effort to protect these women. It is crazy that in 2023, it seems as if some of the world's nations continue to progress forward while some continue to remain stagnant or even regress.

American held captive in Afghanistan for more than 2 years is released in prisoner swap

An American being held captive for over two years in Afghanistan was finally brought home. This swap was successfully made with the Taliban after "constructive" conversations. I find it amazing how we in a way give these terrorist groups an upper hand by negotiating with them. This article mentioned how the negotiations took months, which only prolonged the American captive's captivity. I am glad that he was brought home safely however, I believe that another means needs to be found that doesn't involve "negotiating" with terrorist.
