The importance of the title is to foreshadow how Chino and Blanca want a bigger apartment because their newborn kid is about to be born. This is a problem as they need room for the baby to be in, but since the apartment that they live in is too small, they need to have more space, which is why the title is names "we needed more space".

Alberto Altamirano

Nikita Wu

The major characters in chapter 5 are: Julio, Blanca, Negra, Vera, and the unborn child of Julio and Blanca. Julio, Blanca, Negra, and the unborn baby are major characters since they’re discussing their future and their baby’s name as it states, “I never really liked your name, but now I kind of like it. What do you think about naming the baby Julio?” “Whatever you want, Blanca.” “I like it,” she said, turning around, placing her full stomach close to me. “I’d like it to have your name if it’s a big and my sister’s name if it’s a girl.” “Why I like your name, Nancy,” I said, and she giggled” (Quiñonez 44-45). Julio, Blanca, and Negra are all major characters in this chapter as they are deciding whose name to use for the unborn child. Furthermore, Vera is a major character in the chapter as Chino had proposed the idea of naming their child after her, which piqued Blanca's interest about her as it states, "Tell me more about Veronica and the street activist" (Quiñonez 46). Vera is an important character to the chapter as she has impacted both Blanca and Julio to possibly name their child after her.

Danerys Rodriguez

The importance of the title "Willie Bodega Don't Sell Rocks: Willie Bodega Sells Dreams" is that Bodega's image can be seen as a drug dealer who wants nothing but money. "Willie Bodega Don't Sell Rocks: Willie Bodega Sells Dreams" was said by Nene when defending Bodega's name to Sapo and Chino.

Bodega wants to meet Vera and ask her to marry him and take her back from her husband. He had lost her to Vera's rich husband in the past because he didn’t have what she wanted. Bodega said that “she didn’t care if I didn't have any money. The problem was, she said, I didn’t have any vision of how to get it.” Her husband had the only thing Bodega didn't have: stability. Money brings stability, and he was too busy focusing on the Young Lords movement to care about money. Vera was also facing pressure from her mother to marry her now husband, who has plenty of money. This left Bodega heartbroken and even Vera as well because they loved each other. During the mist of his conversation with Julio, Julio mentions Vera's intentions with marrying her rich husband and then realizes that he “had hit a nerve. Veronica was something sacred.” Bodega is still hung up about Vera despite her already being married, and he still wants to pursue her after all this time being apart from each other.

-Kitty

We are introduced to Negra in this chapter. She is the sister of Blanca. She threw a knife at her husband, Victor because she suspects he's cheating on him. Negra is important to the story as she knows what's going on in the streets and a major information holder. We know this through the history of Popcorn; nobody knew who killed Popcorn until Negra told the entire neighborhood. She is indirectly described as knowing and a little unhinged for throwing a knife at her husband. Speaking of her husband, Victor is introduced to the story by the fight with Negra. He was stabbed by her because Negra thinks he's cheating on her (which he is) because he went to go see a movie he was supposed to see with Negra.

Taiyeba Tajzi- This chapter mentions how Negra acts and her actions. At the start of the round, Negra has just stabbed her husband because she suspects him of cheating on her. Additionally, this connects to what we previously learned about Negra because she was described as a feisty, devilish lady who wasn't as good and innocent as Blanca. In other words, Negra wasn't scared to act up when she suspected her husband of cheating, which he was. We later find out that he was, in fact, cheating on her.

Kenneth,The chapter "Que Viva Chango" is ultimately foreshadowing the characters and the situation the story will present. "Que Viva Chango" translates to "Long Live Chango". In the chapter, Chango is a ancient deity, who is prescribed and communicated through Dona Ramonita. Chango is a major part of the book and is foreshadowing the one of the main conflicts, much like any other chapter.

Shaheer Alam

The conflict is about Julio trying to figure out what Bodega really wants from him. And he’s unsure if Bodega wants him to help with Nazario or just connect with Blanca’s aunt, Vera. When Julio suggests he’ll help in exchange for a two-bedroom apartment for his future family. Sapo gets really mad. He feels like Julio should have mentioned that before making their car smell like a chicken, which they picked up for a religious offering. This argument shows how tricky Julio’s situation is he wants to make things better for himself, but he risks upsetting his friends and getting himself deeper into Bodega's plans. It’s all about balancing his needs with the expectations of the people around him.

This chapter starts with Sapo asking Chino for another favor but Chino interrupts him, saying that he has information about Vera for Bodega. Chino says to pass on this information onto Bodega and Sapo agrees. However, then Sapo says that Bodega wants to see him and Chino also agrees. Further on in the chapter, they meet with Bodega and Chino meets Nazario for the first time. As a warning, Sapo says to Chino that Bodega and Nazario are talking about a guy named Alberto Salazar and that what they're talking about doesn't sound good. Chino and Bodega then have a talk about Vera after Nazario leaves. Chino gives Bodega the information on where to find her along with some more knowledge about her whereabouts. At the end of the chapter Chino is simply pondering about his life with Blanca and the baby and how they will have a better life.
