People want to change the date:

26 January --> 9 July

Why ? 9 July is the date when the constitution of Australia was ratified.

(When Australian were no longer a British colony).

a) The ancient Ingenious heritage

b) The British institutions built upon it

c) The abording gift of multicultural migration.

--> Australia Day has to celebrate the 3 stories.

26 January celebrate only one story

It marks the landing of Britain's first arrival in Australia. There is a conflict concerning the meaning of this celebration bewteen indigenous people and Britain's people.

60 % of Australians see it as a dark part of their country's history and called the Australia Day the "Invasion Day". They were forced to leave their land to Brtitish and move forward, dispossessed of what they had constructed and segragated... Dennis Kickett, an indigenous, sees this celebration as an opportunity to tell the real history of his country and what really happened that day. It is a sort of cultural appropriation for them.

Other people don't want to mention the truth but insist oN the great achievement that represent this landing for Australia. Many events as concerts and sporting events are created to celebrate that day without knowing what it really means.
