My students were engaged with the assignment. By using the teacher page, students were able to keep the vocabulary used in the article next to their response. Students were able to read a challenging text, because of the video and vocabulary that built their background knowledge.

I need to see grade level examples. I am a visual person and I do not think I have my head totally wrapped around how to best utilize the notebooks. Just like my students, I will need practice to feel successful. I will take time this summer becoming more comfortable with this model and developing solid lesson plans. I did not feel totally prepared to implement the notebook.

We studied two texts on Henry Hudson's explorations. I've been incorporating multiple texts into social studies lessons to allow students to analyze the validity of sources. This has lead perfectly into our research paper on the Revolutionary War!

My students were learning about Massachusetts Colony. The Processing Activity was to create three newspaper headlines. I thought this students' second one was pretty witty!

The students were studying the Rhode Island Colony. The post-its were the notes from the reading that were collected to create the caricatures of Williams and Hutchinson. The students LOVED drawing the caricatures and writing the narratives!

We only have 45 minute lessons. I am struggling to get my students through all three stages in a class session. Their work is usually incomplete. So I have been doing the Preview and starting the Activity and then sending the remaining activity work and the processing home for homework. (Not everyone does their homework though either!)
