Sixteen year old Eden Munro decides to go visit her father in Santa Monica; a small town in L.A., California, where she learns about her new step-family; her stepmother ___, and her three stepbrothers, Jamie, ___, and Tyler.
At first, her summer is boring. She didn't know anyone in this new place, until she made friends with her neighbor and her stepbrother's girlfriend. Her brother was all but nice to her, he yelled at her, said cruel things to her, and even drug her to a party where everyone was smoking and doing bad things.
She's surprised at one time when he knocked on her wall. and they had a real conversation. She later discovers she's falling for the guy she shouldn't be falling for. The small, nicer things he does to her, and bringing her to a friend's apartment when she had a night out with her friends for her safety.
In the end, Tiffani finds out about Eden and Tyler's relationship. Faking that Tiffani was pregnant, she told Tyler how she needed help for when the baby was born. Tyler was forced to live with Tiffani, after she told his parents that he was drug dealing.
When Eden goes to Tiffani's house for a party—which she wasn't invited to—she discovers Tiffani's not really pregnant, and is faking it so Tyler doesn't leave her. When Tyler finds out, he rages and rushes to his car. Eden follows and tells Tyler how they can't be together anymore.
Eden phones up her mom. This is when she finds out her mother wants to move to Santa Monica; she's been talking to a guy in Santa Monica for a while, and finally wants to live with him. And that's exactly what they do, and now Eden lives close to the guy she wasn't supposed to fall for, but she did.

Eden Munro: Eden is a sixteen year old female who lived in Portland with her mother. Her father left her when she was young, and now her mother is forced to work overtime, and work more jobs. When Eden's father gets ahold of her and asks her to come visit him in Santa Monica, she was a little hesitant. But she agreed. She wasn't a mean person, but when she saw her father, she had a few mean things rolling through her mind. Throughout the summer she changed. Instead of the girl that seemed so innocent, she started to party. She didn't enjoy them too much, until one night she wanted to forget everything. So she drank, a lot. Still, in a way, she was the same person on the inside.

Tyler Bruce: Tyler is a seventeen year old male who lives in Santa Monica. He comes off as a mean guy, always rude to others and not caring what they think, but it's only because he had a very bad past. His father's in jail for child abuse—he told people it was for other reasons—which made him a harder person, and not decent to talk to. He's a partier and likes to get drunk or else smoke bad things. He's the kind of guy Eden's mother warned her about before she had left. But through all of this, he's still a caring person, and puts others before themselves. In a way, he's almost broken, and needs the drugs and the drinking for a distraction. Tyler's Eden's stepbrother, and her lover. He has two other siblings, and is the oldest out of all of them.

Conflicts

The first major conflict in the book is when Eden has to decide whether to visit her father or not. She chooses to go and visit him in Santa Monica. Which ties into the second conflict; how she would deal with seeing her father for the first time in years since he walked out on her mother and herself. She was very nervous to see him, not only because of the years she's spent without him, but she was scared she'd mess something up. But she ended up seeing him, and it went better than she thought.
Another conflict in the book is Tyler himself. She doesn't see how someone could be as mean and messed up as he was. This conflict isn't resolved until later in the story when she finds out about his dad, and how he abused him as a child. She found out not only because he told her, but when her stepbrother might've broken his wrist, Tyler was especially mad about it. He told her later in the story that his father had made a "game" out of breaking his wrist, he had broken it plenty of times.
The third conflict in the story was when Tiffani found out that Tyler and Eden had something going on between them. One of Tyler's friends had told Tiffani how he saw Tyler with some other girl, kissing in his car. That girl was Eden. Tiffani was throwing a rampage, and almost told their parents about what was going on. The conflict was solved when Tiffani lied about her pregnancy, Tyler found out about her lie, and then Tyler and Eden ended up arguing about their relationship. Eden ended it with Tyler.

I recommend this book to teenagers who enjoy good romance books. I would not recommend this book to very young readers; there are swear words and things that aren't suitable for younger audiences. There's drug abuse, and mention of physical and emotional abuse.

The theme of this book is to not give up on love, even if others tell you it's wrong. If you love someone, fight for that love. Don't give up because you think it won't work out, or because of what others think.
