수업 활동은 반찬과도 같아서 아무리 좋은 것도 계속 쓰면 질려요. 활동의 장단점을 파악해서 내가 하고자 하는 수업에 맞춰서 사용해요. 강의형, 모둠형, 짝형 수업, 온라인 수업, 블렌디드 수업 다 좋아요.

Q. 학교 일과가 끝난 후에는 어떤 일정을 보내시는지도 궁금해요. 특히 수업 준비를 어떻게 하시는지 이야기 들어보고 싶어요.

학생들의 있는 모습 그 자체를 인정하고, 격려하고, 칭찬하고 수업에 끌어들이는 낚시 능력이 제 특기에요. 인연을 길게 이어가요. 예전 제자들이 지금 제자들을 설득해줘요.
아이들이 변하는 순간에 딱 캐치해서 칭찬해줘요. 아이들의 노력을 바로 인정하는 거죠. 예) 머리 자르고 왔을 때 아이들에게 관심이 있다는 걸 바로 보여줘요.

Q. 고등학교 영어는 학생들이 수능을 잘 칠 수 있도록 가르치는 것을 초점을 잡고 가르쳐야 할까요?

학생들의 필요를 무시해서는 안 되지만, 학생들에게 필요한 부분을 가르치는 것도 교사의 역할이라고 생각해요.

Q. 아이들을 가르치는 것에 슬럼프를 느끼신 적은 없나요? 있다면 극복하는데 좋은 방법이 있으신가요?

제가 아무리 노력해도 변하지 않는 아이들의 상황에 좌절을 느낀 적이 많아요. 극복했던 방법은 선택과 집중이에요. 날 바라봐주는 아이들이 있어요. 그 아이들의 변화에 집중해요. 나머지는 언젠가 시간이 되면 변할 거라는 긍정적인 기대감을 갖고 기다려요. 변하긴 해요. 3년, 5년, 10년 뒤에. 고3은 1년, 중1은 6년이면 성인이 돼요.

Q. 학생 수가 점점 감소하는 것으로 알고 있는데, 앞으로 교사의 전망이 어떨 것 같은지 선생님의 의견 궁금합니다!

인공지능의 발달로 기계적인 학습을 하는 교사의 자리는 없어질 수도 있을 것 같아요. 하지만 변화무쌍한 아이들과 소통하고 감성을 건드릴 수 있는 교사의 자리는 계속 있을 것 같아요.

Q. 저는 학생들을 인성적으로 어떻게 양육하고 가르쳐야하는지에 대한 선배님의 연수를 듣고 싶습니다. 요즘 학생들을 보면 옛날과 다르게 선생님들의 통제에서 벗어나 자유를 추구하는 모습을 많이 보고 있습니다. 선생님과 같이 함께 있는데도 불구하고, 선생님을 무시하거나 수업에 방해하는 행동을 보이거나 불쾌한 행동을 주는 학생이 있을 때 선배님은 어떻게 대처하시고 그 학생을 양육하시는지 궁금합니다. 또한 학생들에게 보상과 처벌을 어떤식으로 주었을 때 반응이 제일 좋았는지에 대해도 말씀해주시면 감사하겠습니다.

결과안내중심훈육을 씁니다. 학생에게 선택의 기회를 주고, 각 선택에 따른 결과를 안내합니다. 그 후에 학생의 선택한대로 감정 없이 처리합니다. 학생을 진심으로 아끼는 선생님은 아이들도 압니다. 그런 감정적 교감을 갖고 아이들의 모습을 조금씩이나마 변화시킬 수 있는 것이죠. 교사는 상처받은 치유자(wounded healer)입니다.
