1. What was the study set out to find out?

-The study aims to identify how journalists use WhatsApp for news as a journalistic channel(distribution), and as bridge of communication between the journalists and the audience(engagement).

2. What data collection method(s) was/were used in this study? In what order?

- Interview: German local news editors have been interviewed about which digital transitions they use( WhatsApp newsletters being one of them).

- Survey: they conducted a survey among journalists.

- Quantitative data, and then qualitative data (was primarily focused on quantative data).

3. How was the data analyzed?

-To analyse all media types, they conducted a case study of all newsrooms based on Germany’s largest state North Rhine-Westphalia. They then assessed whether it had a WhatsApp channel.

4. How was the outcome of one method used in the other?

-All respondents of the survey stated that the newsrooms they work at use social media to distribute their content. Fifty percent use WhatsApp as a newsletter or engagement channel.

5. Why is this a mixed-method study?

-It collected both quantitive data (surveys) and qualitative (interviews) to base the study on.

6. Optional: suggest 2 advantages and 2 shortcomings of the method/ology.

-This methodology is time consuming, and the researchers found that they could not record the changes over time and analyse that data. It also primarily focused on quantitive data and they believed that further qualitative data may have supported the study better.

- The method however, provided more evidence and a variety of data which supported the study better. It also gave the researches a better understanding of their research topic.

Social science is a great choice as a university degree because according to the research conducted by the British Council in 2015, 44% of international leaders studied social sciences and obtained a degree. This shows that the graduates who studied social sciences gained knowledge and attained skills that prepared them for leadership roles and provided them with a higher chance of achieving them.

Social science is a great choice for your university studies because it helps make a positive difference within society. Social scientist Polly Neate says, “Every campaign I’ve worked on or run has been underpinned by an understanding of where we are, why change is needed, and exactly what change we seek”( Neate, 2021). This fact shows that, to target a particular problem within society and aim to eradicate it, we must first understand society. Through this understanding of society, we can then identify why and how we could approach this problem. I argue that, social science is a great choice for your university studies as it give a foundation and necessary base line to solving problems that threaten our societies from prospering which is vital to all people centred jobs that students may take up in the future.

Students that study social sciences have a better understanding of the real world. Data scientists, engineers, and programmers frequently lack an understanding of human behavior that social scientists are masters in. We're experiencing some major changes in technology, such as AI. For instance, three-quarters of Americans say they are too terrified to travel in self-driving cars. This fact shows that no matter how innovative technology gets, if the public doesn't like it, it will fail. (Emmons, 2018)

The preeminent statement that will be elaborated on is “social science is a great choice for your university studies”. Exemplified by its high level of relevancy and demand in workforces. As in order for a business or company to operate successfully, it must be able to analyze and manage risks, develop new products/ services based on customer demands (Wahba, 2021). By choosing social science, you are taught how to apply certain attributes and theories which will aid in attaining these goals. Additionally, around 40% of the new undergrad chose to study social sciences in the UK (Wahba, 2015), proving its high demand. According to the Academy of Social Science, the definition of Social Science is “Social science is the study of people: as individuals, communities and societies; their behaviours and interactions with each other and with their built, technological and natural environments” (Wahba, 2015).

Social science is a great choice of for your university studies!
Social science is the best choice for you to study at university because it makes us more aware that the study of people is vital to our collective future. In 2020-2021, about 40% (about 230,000 people) of undergraduate freshmen study this major in the UK, and it can solve the problems of people and natural society, such as the new museum pneumonia problem. Coping with the COVID-19 crisis relies on medicine to treat patients and develop vaccines. It is also important to understand the nature of globalisation, how to deal with risks and so on. Social sciences help us to constantly understand and understand the human world and inspire us to become culturally sensitive, environmentally conscious and socially responsible people, (Professor Sir Cary Cooper CBE FAcSS)
