Along with the corrupt and oppressive Syrian Regime run by the Russian backed Bashir Al-Assad, there is a 4 year civil war raging on, rebels fighting the government, millions fleeing en masse, and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, mercilessly murdering all in their way. Now along with the U.S. coalition strikes led by the US, Canada, The UK, and France, the Russians are rolling out not only planes and ships, but ground forces. This shows that the Russians are trying to re-establish their influence over the wartorn middle east, after it lost almost all of it after the arab spring and failed invasion of Afghanistan in 1979. The picture is a easy way of describing what is going on in Syria.
