At the start of the lesson, I had very limited knowledge about the function and purpose of each sculpture. It was quite difficult for me to interpret and determine why a sculpture was created in a certain way or why the artist must use specific materials to create the artwork. Although I was not familiar with the topic, I had some background information about famous artists and their masterpieces such as Michaelangelo's the 'David', Gian Lorenzo Bernini's sculpture the 'Ecstacy of Saint Theresa' and many more.

What I learned in the module of sculpture as a fine art

In the numerous lectures I observed about the different classical sculptures which are Greek and Roman. Moreover, I can further identify the different styles in sculpture such as: the Archaic style which is rigid and stylized, and it can be identified by its symmetry and how it is forward-facing, and the Hellenistic style which focuses on the severe expression, the dynamic movement and many more.

I also learnt the concept of the design and function of each sculpture and I was able to further understand the thinking behind the artwork and its deeper meaning. Moreover, I gained more knowledge about the different sculptures especially the way it was constructed and the different types of methods and materials to perfectly create the artwork.

Also, I learnt that each sculpture is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye but it is judged by its beauty and meaningfulness by the viewer.

At the end of the lesson, my mental abilities changed and I became more observant when it comes to viewing sculptures. Because of this, I am able to conceptualize and interpret the different sculptures in more detail. This topic has enriched my experience by allowing me to appreciate the arts and sculpture even more by paying attention to the essential details. Furthermore, my understanding of sculpture has expanded and deepened by experiencing the processes and the making of sculpture.
