Thoughts on Rethinking the Roles of Teachers

The main message of the article is that the roles of teachers or the expectations for teachers are now changing, and the use of new digital tools and resources can be a way to fulfill the roles and expectations.
I also think it is inevitable to use new digital devices in order to work effectively as a modern teacher. As the author said in the passage, teachers have a lot of new kinds of work to do for their students. It is no longer only teaching academic knowledge that teachers are supposed to do but also they are expected to take care of social and emotional issues of their students, show themselves as good examples of citizenship and encourage to get lifelong learning habit. Therefore, they have to designate those machines to do what they used to do by themselves, such as giving knowledge about subjects, assessing their students' knowledge, and so on.
The problem is that teachers currently working are not likely to have enough time to obtain those skills. Accordingly, it is needed for the government to give them time and opportunities to learn how to facilitate their classes by using new technologies. In addition, potential teachers who study to be teachers are encouraged to be prepared to use the devices before becoming teachers.

English class in Japan, the 1st grade in junior high school

1st grade in junior high school is where they officially start learning English, so they do not have much knowledge of English yet. Then, I would do a very basic task with them by using Padlet. In this class, I would like them to learn how to introduce themselves in English. Although they are supposed to start learning English from junior high school, they have had English activities in elementary school. Therefore, they should know some of simple words and phrases such as "I am", "I like", and so forth. I would like them to share what they already know on Padlet before we learn how to introduce ourselves. The merit of using Padlet here is that they feel less nervous to share their ideas than when they share the ideas in front of their classmates. They are more likely to tell what they know because they do not have to be afraid of making mistakes thanks to anonymity. In addition, it would take much shorter to share ideas with Padlet than to do that in reality. After talking about the ideas the student told to the class, we would move on to how they mean and how to use them.
