On the day she is about to reveal her name, the jar disappears, and encouraged by her new friends, Unhei decides to keep her Korean name<br><strong>Lesson: </strong>Students will be given a worksheet with questions for them to answer about their own name. Questions will include "Do you like or dislike your name? Why do you feel that way? Does your name have any meaning to it? Are you named after anyone you know? After going home to talk to parents about these questions, students will come back and share their answers with the class so everyone is able to hear about the story behind their classmate's names.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

At the Jungle Dance, the warthogs waltz, the chimps cha-cha, and the lions tango. "Giraffes can't dance," they all jeer when it's Gerald's turn to prance. But with some sound advice from a wise cricket, Gerald starts swaying to his own sweet tune.<br><strong>Lesson: </strong>After initially reading the story aloud, <strong>r</strong>eread the story and have the class make a list of all of the rhyming word sets. After reading each page ask the children to identify the two words that rhyme. Record each set on chart paper. Review all of the rhyming words, then invite the class to think of more rhyming words to add to their list.</div>]]></description>

The Star-Belly Sneetches think they are the best, and look down upon Sneetches without stars. Both types of Sneetches begin to change their appearance to separate themselves from others until &nbsp; an epiphany strikes them all at once: that it really doesn’t matter whether a Sneetch has a star belly or not - they are all really the same, and can coexist and be friends with one another.<br><strong>Lesson: </strong>Students will be asked to write three ways they are unique/special. These different examples will be accompanied by a coloring page of a Sneetch that they can decorate in order to represent them self. Accessible, humorous, family-filled illustrations; conversations between Gus and Nellie; and straightforward text come together to help children realize why it’s important to treat others the way they want to be treated and the way <em>you</em> want to be treated — whether a person is a lot like you or different from you, a good friend or someone you have just met or seen for the first time.<br><strong>Lesson: </strong>Students will participate in an activity where they have to walk around the room and find someone who has something in common with them. There will be a "scavenger hunt" of people they need to find. For example, "Find someone who has the same amount of siblings as you, Find someone who has a different hair color than you do, etc." Once everyone has participated in the activity, there will be a full class discussion on what everyone learned about their classmates and how similarities/differences can be positive in the classroom.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>Teaser: </strong>Based off of the famous writing of Dr. Seuss, this short video on the Sneetches helps show people of all ages what it means to accept yourself for who you are, and reminds us all that we should be seen as equals. This fun, colorful, and wacky video brings a meaning to students while bringing to life the original story of the Sneetches.<strong><br>Lesson:</strong> Students will watch the Sneetches video after already reading the story aloud as a class. While watching the video, students will point out times where the Sneetches wanted to be like someone else, and not themselves. After watching, students as a class will brainstorm and come up with one example of a good mental reminder on how to like yourself for who you are.
