The bias of a news outlet matters because, depending on its opinions, the more likely they are going to provide information that supports them. By recognizing the biases of news reporting we can learn to investigate information from these sources to help determine what information is accurate. By consuming balanced news media we can better understand all sides of a story, and it will open us up to the thoughts and opinions of others. By taking these into consideration, we may even find ourselves changing our own position on things.

Bias in news outlets matters because it informs decisions about what those outlets publish. We have to be able to identify those biases so we can understand which way they are trying to impact our beliefs and can counteract such efforts, if so inclined. A more balanced intake of news helps us to understand more aspects of current affairs instead of being trapped in a filter bubble.

The bias of a news media outlet matters because, if you as a news media consumer are looking for the facts of a situation and are not savvy to the ways news media can and does skew stories for a specific agenda, you can be caught up into thinking something is true when it in fact only partially true or even false. It's important to be able to recognize biases in the news media so that we can make valid sound decisions based on fact not on what someone else wants us to believe. Looking at balanced news media, the left, the center, and the right, is a good way to see how each perspective of the same story is being reported and comparing all three can help an individual see the real facts as well as the motives for each side portraying the story as they are.

As Allsides repeatedly states, the true danger is hidden bias. When we are able to enter into listening, reading, or watching a news article already knowing what sort of bias is at play, we can better sort out what parts of the presentation may be affected by these biases. By reading a variety of sources, we can practice separating facts from opinions and we can form our own conclusions based on a variety of input.
