Ms. Tabassum

Ms. Tabassum began by describing co-teaching as two teachers who work together in a classroom. The responsibilities are not only on one teacher but on both of the teachers because they plan and teach together. She made a great point when she said that it is important for people to work and listen to each other when they collaborate. When we discussed co-teaching I learned that Ms. Tabassum hasn't had a chance to experience co-teaching. She feels that all educators can benefit from co-teaching so that they are able to learn from the other teacher. She thinks that it is important for the teachers to collaborate on a daily basis so they can provide the best learning environment for the students. When asked about collaboration in the near future, she stated that she collaborates with the other members on her team throughout the week regarding lesson plans, trips, etc.

Mr. Tyson

During my interview with Mr. Tyson we talked more about consultation than co-teaching and collaboration. He defined collaboration as having teachers across subjects work together for a common goal. When asked about important characteristics that one should hold in order for collaboration to occur, he stated "compromise." I thought it was interesting how he summed up his thought in one word. Although he does not participate in co-teaching, he feels that it allows teachers to show their strengths and weaknesses. They can then get help in the areas that they are struggling in from their co-teacher. He also mentioned that in order for everything to run smoothly in the classroom, the teachers need to develop a rapport. As we started to talk more about consultation, Mr. Tyson stated that counselors need to have good communication and listening skills. He feels that he could better prepare for consultation if he had more training sessions and workshops to update him on new skills and techniques. He ended by telling me that it is important for counselors to be empathic towards children to help understand their thoughts and feelings.

Ms. Robinson

Ms. Robinson and I talked mostly about collaboration. She feels that children can always have a successful year when the teacher and the parent collaborate to make that possible. As a parent she mentioned that she feels a child does better in school with the parents and the teachers work together. She also stated how amazing it is when someone has your child's best interest at heart and is willing to go above and beyond for his/her education. She looks at parents and teachers as partners since they are working together for the sake of the children.
