American ships and airplanes were left ravaged and bombed with thousands of American soldiers onboard. This attack, was a planned operation by the Japanese, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. He believed that American morale should be crushed and was upset when America cut off trades, creating problems. Due to the outcome, many American soldiers were injured by the attack facing serious high degree burns. The wounded men were quickly moved to a hospital ship, (U.S Naval Hospital) where they rested in lower and upper beds. Although most medical supplies were broken out, many had to be made such as sterile morphine solution, tannic acid solution, and saline solution. Many of the treatments that were used by the soldiers included morphine sulphate, used to relieve pain, sulfa drug, to prevent infections from wounds and burns , Then lastly plasma.

]]> 2022-05-16 17:16:26 UTC https://padlet.com/1042006/oe4g1mwosjpx46lk/wish/2186116155 1042006 https://padlet.com/1042006/oe4g1mwosjpx46lk/wish/2188798753 Six months after the Pearl Attack, The U.S Navy and Japanese Navy took a battle on Midway Island.  Japan yearned to defeat the US Pacific Fleet and planned to use Midway as a base to attack Pearl Harbor to compose dominance.  By June 4th, 1942, Japanese aircraft attacked the US base midway but took a turning point when U.S carriers launched bombs on Japanese carriers, nearly taking them all down. Due to the battle, a total of 317 US sailors, airmen, and Marines were killed.  The men that were injured suffered many wounds such as high degree burns. Many doctors felt overwhelmed with the number of patients they needed to take care of, "wounded men were everywhere" says a doctor working during the battle. Some men were left without a leg and others were nearly dying.  When it gets more serious, doctors would use plasma or morphine to treat the patients. Other than that, it was the best they can do since the bombs kept blocking off exits and entrances.

Japan's secret code has been deciphered by the US which led them to move to Port Moresby, in an attempt to stop the invasion. Initially, the Japanese intended to capture Port Moresby but took a turning point when the confrontation resulted in a battle between the Japanese and American carriers. The outcome followed 8 ships sunk, 161 aircrafts destroyed, and 1,622 men killed. Yet tragically, more than 550 Americans were wounded, suffering severe burns and losses of the body part. Although medical equipment wasn't the best, the first treatment given the most was the injection of morphine to ease suffering.  Issues like lack of medical resources were one of the many problems dealt with during the battle.

With the land of Tulagi, the US settled on it as their first offensive campaign to reach and defeat Japan.  Over six months of battle in the sultry islands, The US was able to hold on to the island through dreadful encounters.  In addition, many casualties resulted in the battle, The Japanese lost a total of 24,000 soldiers and the US lost over 1,000 troops. Due to the harsh conditions in the jungle, many soldiers were nearly dying from various diseases, insects, swarms, irregular food, and humid weather.  Nonetheless, medical issues were faced in the occurrence such as the limited medical care and treatments to prevent the lethal diseases roaming, leaving men to die. It focused on its objective of blocking Japan from sources of rubber, oil, and raw materials for the Military with the addition of retaking the Philippines that have been captured from Japan. After a series of naval battles, the outcome consisted of heavy losses. The Japanese Navy suffered 26 warships lost and four aircraft carriers. On the other hand of US, it resulted in the losses of seven warships and three aircraft carriers. With the following damages, many deaths resulted in a total of 16,043 US soldiers, and 7,270 sailors killed. Injured soldiers suffered from shot wounds, burns, illnesses, and severe trauma. Care in the navy was especially challenging to keep soldiers alive, find enough equipment, and have difficulty controlling bleeding. Among treatments, they were given casts, antibiotics, dressing wounds, splints, and plasma.

This battle was settled on the beaches of Normandy to attack Germany. By June 6, preparations were set with thousands of paratroopers and glider troops on the ground. Over the course, the Allies fought their way across Normandy until August when they reached the Seine River where Germany surrendered. This invasion was a complete success, preventing Hitler from sending troops from France to build power. Yet ultimately, over 425,000 Allies and Germans were killed and wounded due to the destructive weapons. In the aftermath and during the battle, thousands of medics worked tirelessly and risked their lives to save the many soldiers. Like most previous hospitals during the war, they were bombed.  ''[the bomb] would land and the concussion was terrible. It would blow your windows out and one did land right by our hospital. One of our doctors got a Purple Heart, he was injured by it. They were a terrible menace.'' This campaign was enacted to clamp down on German Forces in France and liberate them. Over the course of the battle with Germany, the allies only suffered 395 casualties with massive success with the operation.  Despite the achievement, it certainly wasn't all great with the following casualties. Many soldiers nearly died from the loss of blood over the number of shot wounds. " One had his face bleeding and the other had his hand hit. I looked at my leg again and saw a hole in the pants leg. I opened my pants and saw blood running down my knee, so I took off my pack. The other men were laying on the ground, calling for the medic." It was a difficult job to keep the many men alive, treatments to control bleeding included dressings, warm compress, hemostatic bandages, and morphine.

To make matters worse, the weather only made wounds grottier due to the cold weather.
